Short Tutorial for EK sideskirt

after hours of searching, i didint find any useful information about installing EK skirts on DA, so i made a thread a few days ago and no one was willing to htoelp… i finally had time day to fit them on my car.

hope this will help u guys in need of a tutorial

Tools needed:
-Dremel or other cutting tool
-Cutting disc for dremel
-Sanding tip for dremel (optional)
-Masking tape
-exacto knife (optional)
-epoxy or other glue (optional)

1st step:

u will need to trim off all the mounting brackets, these are use on EK to hold the skirt in place… DA dont have clips

u should end up with something like this

next step:

u need to trim off the top flap off the skirt , that flap squeezes between the bottom of the door, since DA dont have skirt, their isnt enough room for the flap
in order to trim it u could fellow the lines on the top skirt (see picture) but i recommend leaving 5mm from the line for a better result

u should have something like this

left untrimmed - right trimmed

next step:

u also need to trim off the bottom of the skirt because is touching the frame off the car

Right: Untrimmed
Left: Trimmed

next step:

Cutting the skirt to the correct lenhgt since the skirt is to long for DA

IF u want to use ur Mud flap u have to cut it shorter than i did

uncut:

cut:

next step:

if u want to use ur mud flap than skip this step…

since u cut the skirt to correct lenght u also cut off the front end cap…

so the next step is to reconnect the cap to the skirt with epoxy or any other binding method u want to use

u also need to cut the cap a lil bit because is to long

final step:

u could use self taping srews to screw to skirt to the car

2 on each en cap and 3 on the bottom of the car

will update when ill have them install…

First of all… VERY NICE WRITEUP!

Second, is not the fact that people didn’t want to help… it’s just that the topic of EK skirts have been beaten to death and somewhere mixed inside certain threads are instructions of how to cut and mount… just very hard to do a specific search cuz the instructions are all mixed into a certain “EK skirt” thread… know what I mean?

Lastly… post pics when done!

nice write-up…i completely agree with hybrid90, there are so many ways to mount up any skide skirts, wheather it’s the EK, DC, CD6, or any other side skirts. EVERYONE does it different. i helped you…didn’t i?

also, not to be a jerk but, you stated that there wasn’t enough room to squeeze the EK side skirts between the bottom of the door, since DA dont have skirt. you actually can and there is enough room…it’s been done before. you just have to trim off the ends. it’s just another option that can be done and it helps prevents the side skirts from sagging in the long run, also makes it a lot more easier to install, no need to screw the skirts from the bottom but you can for the best hold.

here’s a picture of how i hunged the CD6 side skirts on my DB1…same concept can be used with any other side skirts on the DA as well

Nice WriteUp. Contact Neil when you are done so he can add this to the Teg-Tips. That way we wont have this problem of not finding write ups. Also DB1st those are the exact skirts that are oing on my Db1. Around how much would you say you removed to get To sit right in the door jam?

i would guessimate 3/4 of an inche, if not than less…if you want the exact measurements, i’ll get it tomorrow.

That’s a very good idea Sikauto… cuz don’t you hate having to see the writeup somewhere and totally forgot which thread it was in and sometimes the search function sucks dick and blah blah blah…

yup and then after 3hrs of looking you finnaly find it And your happy as hell. You click on it, it opens and then wtf pics have been removed andyou have no idea what there talki g about. Lol.

whenever you get a chance bro. No rush. Thanxx tho.

I have another tip for ek sideskirts. When I dremeled the top part off it was kind of jagged and rough, so I got some of that black rubber door trim tubing you can get at pepboys and covered the dremeled lip up so it was a little bit cleaner.

This stuff:

^^ Hey that IS a good idea! A+ for you sir!

Db1st: Can you get a close-up pic of where the skirt “exit” the door jam.

This parts but for the front door?

:gotpics: Did it stick out farther because of the molding thing between the body and skirt?

Little update 28/10/09

finished up the end caps with filler to make them into 1pieces

primer and paint soon

I would but I sold my da a couple years ago

Did it look clean though? Or did it stick out?

there is an ek in the junkyard by me ill have to see if the skirts are still there and pick them up

i found that it was easier to use pliers to remove the mounting things isntead of using a dremel cause if you just grab it with the pliers and turn it a bit they come right off. just my .02

yes it was clean and no it didn’t stick out or look out of place. Definitely better than a jagged dremelled edge.
