I have a issue, I have noise coming from my timing belt area, and needs to be replaced. My mechanic says that to the timing belt and tensioner would be $350 + $200 for the water pump/ But I found a replacment engine for $795 with 47000 miles and I can get it changed out for free. What should I do?
Oh, my teg is a 92’ LS with 180,000 miles, but is in great overall condition. The newer motor would be a great start for my project teg.

if the motor is in good shape then I would swap it… its a B18a right (non-VTEC)
BUT… the only thing i suggest is IF you are gonna swap, you should replace alll the things that will wear out ( ie timing belt … ) You might as well do it while the engine is outta the car… This way you will have less problems down the road…
how are you gonna change it out for free?
A friend of mine did a couple of Eagle talon swaps, and he owes me a few favors. I pulled him out of a couple ditches:) The plan would be to not have to rebuild the engine just yet and still be able to add headers, intake, suspensions, wheels, tires, then rebuild and go for NOS…
b18a yup.
well, if you change the motor you’re still gonna have to change the timing belt, tensioner, and probably the water pump too. Unless you know for sure those parts are still new. I would just pay to have the belt and water pump changed on my existing engine.
Thanks, I think that is the way I will go. I was talking to the guy I pulled out of the ditch and he said he would help me with the timing belt and it would only cost around 60 bucks for the belt. Sounds like a plan. thanks for the replies///
Shann;)
Can you keep your old motor and build it up or experiment with it?(LSVTEC, etc.)
yeah, I deffinately plan to keep on building and going the frankinstien motor route. Can’t wait…
good god 60 bucks for the belt that’ expensive. id di a engine head swap an whole thing cost me about 800 total i guess close to your whole engine, but i got all new belts ( timing, alternater, ps (40)) and whole new head gasket set (200) i also i got him to put in some aem accesroies pulleys that i bought for 60 bucks shipped.
I didn’t look in the price of the belts yet, that was just a worst case scenario. Where do you buy your parts from? I haven’t had to buy any parts yet. I e-mailed some other Michigan members about some good speed shops but had no luck with replies. What are the best mail order shops?
go to acuraautomotiveparts.com … they have oem acura parts… and they’re cheaper than your local acura dealer…
