I just picked this up a few weeks back and finally getting time to work on it. The belt doesn’t look too bad but it’s definitely got some cracks where the grooves are. Should I repair it instantly or would it be ok to go like another month or so?
Hey welcome! The belt in the pic is the power steering belt. The timing belt is on the engine itself under the valve cover.
If it breaks, it might take out the other belts nearby. If you’re that worried about it, you can run without power steering for a bit (i.e. remove it. I’ve been driving without one for years because my rack is bad).
The power steering belts are inexpensive though and replacement takes a few minutes.
Oh that’s embarrassing lmao, I have a power steering leak anyway so I’ve been driving without it. Not sure where it’s leaking from but the entire PS reservoir is covered in fluid. I’ve been putting that one off for now and figured the cv axles are more important to replace. They both click really bad when turning so I’ve got some coming today. First time tackling cv axles so hopefully everything goes good. I’ve looked up videos and also read on here that it’s pretty easy.
Picked it up for $1500 and definitely excited to get her up and running better. Also have the infamous tail light issue where the fuse keeps blowing. Checked all the wires back there and all was good until I touched one of the bulbs and the fuse blew. The bulbs are so old they’re just welded into the sockets. Car sat for over a year before I got it so definitely have some work to put into it. Texas heat didn’t help it either I’m sure.
Bulbs stuck to the sockets? CRAP!
I don’t know how infamous that issue is because I don’t recall that!
You might have to get new bulbs sockets then but I’ve never looked into those to get as new. Did you ? Perhaps another newer car has something similar.
Would def replace the power steering belt, can’t repair them
