At night, If your gauge lights dim significantly when you step on the brakes, this might be a sign that your battery is about to die… Mine’s started dimming down quite a bit, like I turned down the brightness or something…
I noticed my bro’s eclipse did the same thing before his battery died, and mine did it for a few weeks before it gave out too…
I heard this is a common problem regardless of the condition of the battery, but for me, after I put in a new 3yr warranty battery from Autozone, it doesn’t dim at all anymore when I step on the brakes…
Well after I switched my battery I noticed the starter spun a lot faster, but my lights still dim when I hit the brakes… I’m gonna proceed to change my grounds, if that doesn’t work, possibly it’s the voltage regulator?
When you disconnect the battery and leave it off for a while, it will corrode the metal. When I got my car back from getting the clutch installed my car had dimmed lights and would dim really bad when I pressed the brakes. I cleaned the battery terminals and the cable terminal brackets with a wire brush and the problem was solved.
I had that dimming problem and slow starter, replaced the battery, now the starter spins a lot faster, but the lights are still dimming when I brake… If I have the heater fan at full blast, I can also hear her slow down… I think it’s alternator related… mine is making a loud whining/whistling noise at 1K-1.5K RPM…
Can you pick up on the comment about “kind of like when you have the stereo up really loud…”
I definitely have some barely noticeable dimming of headlights/dash lights when I crank up my new amp/sub.
Its been a long time since I’ve had anything but stock audio in my ride; do the lights indicate a normal draw on the electical system by the audio? Or is that sketchy; perhaps I need a new or stronger battery?
Could be your alternator and/or battery…your best bet would be to install a AutoMeter voltage meter in a pillar pod…that way you can monitor it at all times and get a better idea of whats going on.
