Basically…because you can’t just buy the 3rd gear, you must also buy the rings and other necessary parts on the main shaft. If just the 3rd gear was available I’m sure it would be similar in price.

hey, how much u think it would be for them to replace my first 4 gears with b16a gears and just leave my 5th gear alone?

I assuming you still have the original YS1 trans(LS), and if thats the case(pun intended), the syncros in a B16(JDM) are not compatiable with USDM YS1. Every B-series trans after the non-obd B16s are interchangeable with each other; including type Rs.

No, to my knowledge(which has been wrong before), you can’t swap in a USDM 5th gear into an JDM B16 trans. The gears are cut completly different. There is a taller JDM 5th which can be used, but I’m not sure of its origin. Generally an experienced mechanic will charge 300 to drop and re-install the case, and about 250 to actually do any kind of “in case” work. So, not cheap!
