Skunk 2 IM, Worth it?

Looking into purchasing a Skunk2 IM for my 91 Integra. Just curious if this is a mod that’s worth the money? I’m looking to purchase some cams (Crower 404’s) later on down the line. Just don’t want to spend money on a mod that’s not going to do much. Currently have basic bolt ons, thanks for any help

You’ll benefit from an upgraded intake manifold but not until you get some more mods - specifically cams and increased compression. If it were me I’d do research and plan my build then do it all at once. And DEFINITELY get the car tuned professionally immediately after everything is installed.

the manifold is a good investement but only if you have the mods to warrant needing the manifold. with basic bolt on like you have now, youll gain basically nothing from it. if you plan on buying it then look into getting a larger throttle body as well…

Thanks guys, yeah I do plan on buying a larger throttle body. I noticed that it comes with a 70mm opening, I bought a 70mm TB a few months back and had nothing but trouble with it. I had it on the stock IM, so I’m assuming that’s why I couldn’t get it to idle right? Would having a 70mm TB with a matching IM opening not give me any idle problems? Also I was told by a few memebers on here that 70MM was too big, well too big for what I had done to my motor.

Like I mentioned before I do plan on upgrading to Crower 404’s, and upgrading some parts of the fuel system (i.e. fuel pump, RDX injectors, FPR) and converting it to OBD1 and getting it tuned. Not looking to make 200hp out of a Non-Vtec motor, I know it’s not going to happen. Just looking to make it more fun on the street and be able to keep up with some cars

Do a lot more research. Don’t waste your time with the IM and TB right now, they’re a waste of money. I’d rather spend money on a clutch and light flywheel or better tires, better brake pads, upgraded bushings…etc Also, in terms of the 404’s, those are pretty aggressive - are you planning on just slapping them into your stock head? If so, don’t expect much. If that’s the cam you want to run then you should do the research to see what sort of compression ratio you need to run to take full advantage of the cams. That will then mean you do some milling of the head or better put some higher compression pistons in there. If you haven’t guessed all of this is going to start adding up and you’re approaching what is essentially a full rebuild of your engine.

Personally, if it was me I’d try to figure out what my budget was and what my power goals are. Then investigate what your options will get you to that goal and calculate the costs. Personally I don’t think there’s much use in messing with the non-vtec engine. If you’re willing to buy TB, IM, valvetrain and the compression modifications needed I’d consider just buying a b18c swap, converting to OBD1 and then getting it tuned. But admittedly I’m a bias towards VTEC engines.

Well put Colin! I went threw that had BC cams, springs, and valves for the non Vtec sold them all and switched my idea and plan went way past my budget but oh well!

Honestly a light weight fly and b16 Trans with some falkens or good tires will be a lot better ride!

There’s too much money to put into a non Vtec motor to get a high hp rating lol why I went at first from a Ls non Vtec NA MOTOR to a LSV then to a PMR and well glad I went PMR!

But research is key and crower cams 404s your gubna need dual valve springs all ARP BOLTS and some machining and prolly degreeing on the cams too a lot of money that ain’t there if your going a cheaper route get the intake mani/tb and some stage 2 cams so ya don’t really have to mess with the head or block
