Ok, so, I’m starting to lower my car and I just bought skunk2 adjustable coilover sleeves. Now I’m wondering what shocks should I buy. It’s either tokico blues or kyb gr2.
Thanks in advance.

Neither, both are factory relacement shocks that will ride harsh with lowered suspension. Maybe look into illuminas
Well from what I’ve read on both of their websites.
Kyb-"The best choice to restore OE performance and normal driving conditions
"
Tokico-" TOKICO’s HP Series shocks and struts are also an ideal upgrade for vehicles with lowering springs and larger, heavier aftermarket wheels."
I mean as of now I’m looking into tokico blues. I would like to get some illuminas but I don’t have enough. Should I wait and get some more money for the illuminas?
hb420 what’s your definition of harsh?
My definition of harsh is ride like complete shit, I had gr2’s on my first integra with ground control and it was bouncy as shit. I would save up for illuminas, you will be happy you did. The blues seem to perform the best with the 1 inch drop springs you can get as a kit but anything more then a inch and they will also be bouncy and ride like shit, I had them with tein s tech springs on another teg and that was horrible and bouncy with 2 inch drop springs.
For sure! Ima take your word for it. I can get the illuminas for $400 bucks so ill just do that!
I’ve been reading the “do you need a camber kit” forum and seems like you don’t. Ima lower my car about 2.5-3 inches. What’s your opinion?
I honestly never had a Camber kit on any car, but at the same time I always bought wheels that fit and not some low offset garbage that needs stretched tires and other work to make them fit. I just get it aligned after I lower it.
i have the kyb gr2 with eibach sportlines(1.5,1.8drop) I HATE IT!! they are not made to be on lowered springs. big mistake. soon Im going to pick up some Skunk2 sport shocks. they are shorter .
My OEM struts rode better with Eibach Sportlines than my GR2’s did lol.
Spend the money now (or wait until you have enough) rather than waste it on something you will be replacing within the year.
GR2’s are out of the question. Now it’s either Illuminas, Hp Blues, or Skunk2 sport shocks!
On SKUNK2’s website they do say that the adjustable coilover sleeves will go hand in hand with the sport shocks.
Skunk2-“When applicable, Skunk2 Adjustable Sleeve Coilovers should be paired with Skunk2 Sport Shocks for maximum performance.”
If you are going lower than 2 inches get the illuminas. Gr2 and the blues are basically stock and will die if you go lower than 2inches on them. Then you get that nasty bounce.
Mikel58 what do you think about the sport shocks?
I’ll probably end up getting the illuminas. That’s what I’m saving up for.
The doldrums seem to execute the best with the 1 inches fall rises you can get as a kit but anything more then a inches and they will also be lively and drive like stuff, I had them with tein s technical rises on another teg and that was awful and lively with 2 inches fall rises . . . . . . . .
I 100% agree with this statement. Not only do you get a nasty bounce, but wow will you feel it when you hit the bump stops on the shock. Anything lower than 2" will need an adjustable shock and it would be highly recommended that you get some sort of camber kit. I’m on a GC/Tokico Illumina setup with Skunk2 UCA in the front and a Blackworks rear camber kit and the ride is awesome. I have custom spring rates with my GC’s as well too and with the Illumina’s you get a lifetime warranty like Koni but for half the price. They are 5 way adjustable which is perfectly fine and really all you need even on hard race days, setting it to 4 or 5 will give you the corning experience of a lifetime. HP Blue’s are garbage and the Skunk2 sports are really just an alternative to something a bit tougher than OE. My GC’s cost me $400 for the sleeves and I paid a little over $500 for the adjustable shocks. Honestly this is the best bang for you buck for under $1,000.

my buddy had them on his delsol before he sold the car. The ride quality was good a bit too soft for my liking, but he had them on the car for about only 2 months before he sold the car. So I dont know how they will hold up in the long run.
