Slop in de-powered rack.

I de-powered my steering rack as described in this thread.

Installed in the car, there is quite a bit of play where I can turn the wheel parked and here it making a clunk and then moving the wheel. It is currently only aligned by me ‘eyeballing’ it, could that be a factor? I’ve tried adjusting the tension, the large bolt and spring. I haven’t taken it down the road yet as it’s not legal or finished, but I’m sure it will be bad from how it feels.

Any ideas?
I’m tempted to buy an ef rack if I can get a bushing for it, or make one.

Interesting thread…didn’t know there was another way to effectively remove ps besides a manual rack. I followed the team-integra post on looping our steering racks. Work’s great and its reversible if you want to use PS again.

I decided to pull it apart and inspect it.

I felt as though the pinion was moving up and down, and it was. I assumed I would have to weld it like a miata, but the snap ring had popped out somehow… wasn’t me!

Its quite a bit better, but it still has a small amount of slack. I can live with that.
