Hey everyone! Just wanted to share a little of what’s happened to me SEVERAL times. I started hearing a little “clicking” sound coming from the engine one day. Pulled over and popped the hood, tried to locate the source of the noise. I noticed it was coming from the distributor. Got home, took off the cap/rotor and inspected them. The rotor was actually HITTING the electrodes in the cap! This was on a TEC cap/rotor combo. Went to the Acura Dealer (ONLY one in town, Las Vegas, NV) and bought OEM cap/rotor. This solved the issue of how loud the clicking was. Upon further examination by removing the distributor, come to find out, the bearing was outta whack. Took the distributor to the Acura dealer, was told that they “sometimes do that” and that it’s “normal” for the “older” integs to have that problem. I asked that since it’s normal, if Acura was doing anything to resolve that issue. They said, no, that car is too old already. Only choice left, but a NEW distributor @ $350 or go to junk yard and get a distributor for $150. Took the junk yard route (trying to save money for more mods) and about 6mths later, same problem!!!. Went to junk yard once again, bought another distributor, all was well for another 8mths, then…SAME PROBLEM! i’m totally fed up at this point, because this has cause me to be stuck on the side of the freeway because the distributor locked up on me. Got car towed to Acura dealer, bought NEW distrubutor, (cannibalized parts from the faulty distributor) and now everything is fine. Just goes to show, it IS a MAJOR issue with these darn distributors! If this happens to you, just pay the extra $$ and get a NEW distributor. HTH.
Used to have ticking in my engine, it was the Vtec lifters
try that, and if not, Well I hope you have never let the oil in that car get low. thats what happened in my older car I had. Of course my 300zx never has problems like this.
I had the same distributor problem with my old AV integra. Pain in the @ss and there are no warning signs.
distributor recall
if your distributor locks up on your 92-93 integra, there is a recall that will fix it for free. Just ask them about it at the dealer and they should be able to look it up.
dunno if its related, but i killed my 91’s distributor by revving to redline in neutral then shifting into D. walked home with a friend at 4am. lesson: damned if i know
the distributer recall only lasts 6 years, or till 99 if your car is a 93, so we’re out of luck. i had the same problem and the dealership wouldn’t do it for free. the other thing is, i bought a new distributer from the dealer and it was only 120 for my car. i dunno why mine was so much cheaper.
