Smog related, will b18b pass?

So back in dec. i swapped out my b18a with a jdm b18b,
used all of my b18a sensors and also used the b18a intake manifold(injectors, fuel rail, etc.), dist. and alternator.
I have the stock ecu(obd1) in my car.

My question is, Do you know if this engine will pass smog.
im assuming it should pass, but id like to know if anyone had experience with smogging a jdm engine.

thanks.

As far as i know,JDM motors are illegal now in Cali. What year motor is it? And its all about what shop you go to as well. Some shops never look at the block as some do.

the motor is either a 94 or 95. it was obd1. but i just used all my stuff from my old engine so i didnt have any hassles.
if i remember correctly, the shop i went to 2 years ago didnt check my block or serial number on the engine. i just want to know if it’ll pass smog or not.

and if it doesnt, is there anything i can do?
my car is due for a smog in nov.

The motor might pass smog if everything is hooked up right but like i said,JDM motors are illegal in Cali and shops are getting harder and harder to get over on as the state has come down on them for passing cars that shouldn’t have been pasted.

lets just hope the shop doesnt check. lol
i just hope it’ll pass smog because i really dont feel like swapping it again with a usdm ls.

some people say the compression difference will not allow it to pass, but im using everything from the usdm engine except the engine itself.
i guess ill have to wait and see.

lol yeah lets hope. Some people get lucky so you might be one of them. GL

I live in Missouri and the people here would revolt against such ridiculous laws. I support emissions, however making JDM engines illegal is bullshit. More often than not, since they are newer, they run cleaner than the engine it is replacing. I know someone in St. Louis that replaced his b18a with 300,000 miles with a JDM b18c and had it emissions done and it was super clean.

Dude i just got finished with a 7 month smog battle costing me over $1000, and I just passed last week! I had the car smogged 6 times and not once did the tech check the stamp on the block. I took it to 3 different techs and not one checked it. Compression I don’t think will matter, and I run a B18b as well. Its total fuing bulls* that Cali is so damn strict on swaps and smog so my advice would be to try to find some old oil/grease grime dirt what ever and try to coat it on the stamp so its hidden. Might help a bit, I know it sounds corny but what ever it takes to pass.
Good luck

what was the problem with your car?
im pretty sure the tech wont check, but i just hope it will pass.
my time is coming soon, aha.

Well i replaced part after part and adjusted my timing and valves. Found that my timing was at like 20 degrees so I brought it back to 16. Then I performed a valve adjustment and my HC went down by alot. Problem tho was my CO was just barely over the limit. So i warmed her up real good and passed just under 2 marks ppm. Still don’t know why the CO is high but the tech said he thinks its carbon build up. Im going to pop the head some time next year and clean it up real good along with my manifold. I could use seafoam, but I want to pop the head and really make sure its nice a clean. I could be running a little rich. im really not sure. I came REAL close to retiring the car but i’ve put in so much blood and work in this project and have SOOO much more work to do, and I love my DA way too much to let her go over fucking smog.

Anyways sorry to ramble, my advice is to do the obvious. Oil change, PCV, plugs, air cleaner, make sure your vac. lines are cool. check your timing with a light and make sure its between 16-18 degrees. and you’ll probably be alright.
