smoke, bad idle. not just desc... not just pic... but movie clip

hey guys. there are all these threads about smoke and bad idles. even though I’ve read through everything, I was able to actually not take just a picture, but an actual video clip of my exhaust pipe spewing smoke out. also in the clip is the sound of the idle. doesn’t sound too good. if you can, please take a look! i’m sure that a visual and audible explanation is twenty times that of a written one.

thanks.

my opinion it sounds like either your timing is off or a cylider is bad (could be anything from wire, plug or anything like that…)just my $.02

i can see the vid. but i dont have sound here at work. From the looks of the white smoke, maybe your headgasket went bye-bye. Didnt you get your head rebuilt awhile ago? or was it just a cam install?

Are you loosing lotsa oil or coolant?

I know its bad idle but how does the car run? Any misfiring/hesitation?

See any coolant in the oil?

whoa!! This is a lot of smoke! Seems like headgasket if you ask me… like other asked, are you loosing coolant?

yeah it looks misty like your head gasket is blown, not blue or grey if it was oil and not black. Get A new head gasket and while you’re at it consider your timing belt.

i just installed crower cams, titanium retainers, dual valve springs for the head and replaced the headgasket with a brand new one. would it have blown so quickly? I’ve barely driven it. I’m not losing any motor oil nor coolant. I haven’t really checked coolant, but i have never seen any puddles or anything under the car, or any weird leaks. As for the motor oil…

recently i found a sparkplug “cylinder” filled with motor oil, up to the brim. i was told (here on g2ic of course) that it was the o-ring around the spark plug. i changed that recently and sucked all the oil out. could it be that the sparkplug and wire have gone bad?

thanks guys

Was your car cold when you did that video? I’ve noticed, even on hot days, that my car has a little white smoke, almost like on a cold day, after I start it up for the first time that day. I can get behind it and it smells like fuel. Other than that ya maybe your headgasket… HTH

If you think its a plug/wire, just pull the wire out (and replace) one at a time while the car is running, The car should bog considerably when you pull a wire off each cylinder, if it doesnt then you know that particular one is faulty.

Also, how do your spark plugs look?

is it safe to pull them out while the car is running? and i haven’t taken the plugs out yet.

before i start pulling them, could this problem be caused by the sparks and wires?

thanks for all the feedback so far guys!

Blizz,
Plugs/wires could explain the bad idle, but i doubt it will cause it to smoke like that.

And yes you can pull out the wires from the plugs while the car is running. And it doesnt hurt to look at the plug tips to see if they can tell you anything as to whats wrong.

Have you driven the car? How does it run?

Cool, thanks for the tips. I’ll go try that in a bit.

also, the smoke was coming out after about 5 min. after starting. my friends who drive behind me say a bit of smoke comes out, but it looks like fluid leaking out of the pipe (running too rich? timing problem? injector problem? sparkplug/wire?). But when i do drive it, it’s not bad, just at idle it idles worse than it used to. also I’m losing a bit of power i think, doesn’t pull as hard as it did before the crazy idle problem.
