Ryan, did you put it on yet? How’s the car running? We can trade motors the next time you’re here ;).

Sorry if my location may seem offensive. It’s actually not, i am chinese myself. Let me get this straight. DamnChinese = me :). It’s a joke or a name that we used to use at the office. Whenever i pull pranks or say smart ass comments at my co-workers, they go “damn chinese”. We also had damn texan and damn korean hehe. So there

haha, ok.
I got the sedan back finally. We were having some issues with the coolant fans. We have the fan switch grounded for now so the fan will stay on. Anyway, all I can say is that the car runs great but it is not tire scortching 1st and 2nd gear breaking loose great. It’s just that is what I am getting from everyone who got the b20 swap.
hey redss, same with my engine, they had problems with the coolant fans on my car also. So my fan is just always on whenever car is on 2 or turned on.
what’s all this about “tire scortching 1st and 2nd gear breaking loose”? I’ve never had that problem with my b20
i have a b20 in my 90 GS
ive beatin 2nd gen GSR, 2K SI, 3rd gen LS and i ve beatin all these cars in which they knew how to race. all cars had I/H/E
the cars that ive lost to were a 2nd gen with b18b with I/H/E doin 65 shot
plus my car has I/E and a stage 4 clutch my car is fast.

I m not saying I have that problem. It would not actually be a problem. More like something good to put up with. But I am just hearing people saying that this motor can break tires loose on a rolling take off first gear.
Maybe your guys’ tires are too good. I could break loose from a rolling on the street with fresh but cheap tires, but only with the b20 intake mani on, never happened with the old b18a mani (get rid of it). At the track tho, that’s where the real traction nightmare happened; those launch pads are not for street tires.
For the fan problems, you guys need to have the wiring harness extended to plug into the NEW b20 thermosensor switch location on the thermo housing (plus use the b20 harness connector). Should have been done when the engine was out, goodluck.
Also, with my '90 stock full exhaust i know i’m losing potential for this motor. It also seems to be the obd1 setups that are pulling off the big dyno numbers.

Darver,
so, you are saying that the short b20 manifold and throttle body made that much difference? That’s quite a chunk of power you are talking between breaking tire loose vs not.
Yes, I notice a plug in at the thermostat housing. I am just not sure if it is a sensor or a temp switch. I did extract a useful wire plug with wires for the plug in from the butchered wire harness from the b20b. So, you are saying that is a thermo switch and not a sensor?
Do you have a 90 or 91 car? Isn’t that non-obd car?
Its the thermosensor switch i believe, to be exact, it simply completes the current loop when the coolant hits a certain temperature. If you have the connector and a good length of wire from teh b20 harness, you can just splice it into the thermosensor switch wire at the back of your block where it plugs into the b18 location. Not sure how hard it would be with the engine in. Shouldn’t be a problem with the intake mani out, but what a pain to pull. Do if and when you might upgrade the mani. I took pictures of all this stuff, when i get a scanner going, i’ll post them.
My car is an obd0 1990; i really don’t know if the obd1’s are the same or not.
I do know that the crusty small ported '90 intake mani is silly on a b20. Not a night and day difference, but i could feel a slight low end increase in pep, i’m almost positive (you know how the butt dyno works). The 60mm throttle body with it is nice to have on too.
I can’t say that the b20 mani made the difference in breaking traction from a rolling start. That was simply the only time it happened to happen, when i went to test out the newly installed b20 mani. Maybe it was the patch of pavement i was on.
I normally would launch it, and at a 2500+rpm launch, i would spin to redline everytime, very annoying, wider tires please (or learn to feather).

doesn’t feathering kill your clutch? i used to feather all the time when I would drive up this really steep hill and hit a stopsign, eventually the clutch just wore itself out.
im gald to hear alot good news about the b20 engine. I have a b20z goin in right now. Its been a long wait for it to come together. and from what ive been hearing so far about the engine I can hardly wait. Ive been savin for some decent parts for it so it should be alot of fun once its all put on. so far i have a DC header, skunk2 IM, aem cai, vortech fuel rail and regulator, nology hotwires, lightened flywheel, and a exospeed six puck spring clutch. I still have the stock b18a IM and the low rise b20 if anyone is intersted in them.

sure it’ll wear out the clutch. I’m still using my original clutch, so i’m very hesitant to start practicing on it.

ps who else has an OEM clutch thats still perfect after 200 000 miles?
I got a Exedy Stock replacement for the sedan. For the record, it definitely grabs better than stock. I can chirp the tires at 2nd gear, and I don’t think I have ever done that on a stock integra. Not a bad replacement for 200 bucks.
Darver,
it was not too difficult. I already made a harness to connect to that thermo switch.
