So Shot peen rods or aftermarket rods

After reading some previews thread, I still can’t see which one would be better. I was told that by doing the shot peen to my b18a rods they would be 150% stronger therefore enough for a crvtec that I’m planing on doing. If this is true, why pay more money to get new rods such as Eagle rods since these should be more then enough right? Please do correct me if I’m wrong. Thanks.

it all depends on your exact setup. if you’re going allmotor, then shot peening is probably enough… just make sure the rods are in good condition to start with.

when i was planning an ls/vtec for my car i did some research and found that shot peening the stock rods would probably be good up to about 8k rpms, maybe a little more. However the crvtec will be putting a little more strain on the rods because of the extra power you should be putting out… but hp isn’t as detrimental as rpms when it comes to rods.

If you want just a basic setup, nothing too fancy i’d go for shot peening. But if you want your motor to be an all out monster, then i’d get aftermarket ones. When you think about it, they really aren’t that much more expensive. You’ll have to shot peen and balance the stock rods, as well as get new rod bolts. Aftermarket rods (which should come balanced and w/ bolts) will probably only run $100-$250 more.

Go with some Eagle Rods if you can afford them you can’t go wrong even if you decide to go any further in building your motor…trust me cause modding your teg never, never ends!
