Solo Short Shifter install/questions...

Got the shifter for Christmas! I need any advice you can give on installing this short shifter!!! Should I just pay the $40 to install? I can’t work near my house cuz my dad threatened to take my keys if he finds out I installed it… so should I just pay a shop, get a receipt, in case he finds out???

Any help would be great!

If you’re afraid your dad’s gonna catch you, then go to the shop. It’s not a hard job at all though. I did it in about 30 mins (maybe 40 mins)…the TegTips have a good description on how to do it. I suggest changing the bushings while you’re down there and gonna take it out anyway (get Energy Suspension Polyurethane Bushings-about 15 bucks CDN).

i agree, if your worried about pops, then you should just pay for the install. i also agree that while you’re paying for the install, you should get some quality polyurethane shifter bushings to complement the short shifter. it will take some of the play out of the shifter that occurs when the old bushings get old and cracked.

I think my old bushings are already old and cracked because there is WAY too much play in my stock shifter as is…

Do most local shops carry Energy Suspension bushings? Or do I hafta order them online or…?

It depends on the shop you’re going to I guess. But most local auto parts stores should carry The ES shifter busings. You shouldn’t need to order them online or anything, they’re pretty common (nothing special) parts to change it seems. Unless the auto parts store you’re going to doesn’t have them in stock because their sold out, or for whatever reason.
