Maybe purchasing an $800 car was a poor choice, after merely a month of owning it on light driving, my 93 ls has decided that it doesn’t want to fully engage gears. I believe the problem is more transmission driven than clutch driven because I can physically put the shifter into each gear, however the activation at 2nd gear is very very light and 3rd gear and up don’t even seem to activate at all. My knowledge on engines is very limited so this is all guessing off of my general knowledge of cars. I’ve been told that it may be my slave cylinder however I have no clue where to find this or how I could fix it. Also, does anyone know where I can find a manual to the motor?
Second generation Integras do not have slave cylinders. The clutch is cable driven on our cars unless someone did a hydronic conversion for a 3rd generation integra transmision. Slave cylinders are used on hydronic clutches. You can try to adjust your clutch cable.
What do you mean by “light activation”?
IMO you should expect this sorta thing with an old car, doesn’t matter if you’re paid $800 or $3800, there’s just more risk of failures with these cars due to their age. It’s a crap shoot. If you’re handy then you can fix this yourself and still feel good about what you paid for the car. If you have to pay someone to do it then it might get pricey.
My Integra did that once, just one day decided it didn’t want to go into gear. Replaced the clutch with an EBAY kit and afterwards, shifts smooth like butter.
Yea man I mean 800$ is a fair price what I would do replace Trans with a known working transmission then get s new clutch, resurface or replace flywheel new pressure plate if you or someone is already taking apart best bet of solving the problem is that replace it all I’m sure honestly it’ll be around 2-300 for basic Oem replacement parts but eBay has deals, anyways sounds to me if your not hearing grinding, CHECK THE TRANS FLUID, start from there before you take it apart
1.) check the clutch cable it comes loose and will cause damage if not adjusted properly, still comes loose check that same cable for broken plastic threads which hold the cable in place
2.) check the fluid in the Trans they hold about 2.2 quarts of tranny fluid and order or buy honda manual Trans fluid MTF
3.) if you don’t know some one it will be pricy so pick and choose your purchase based off needs and wants and what you can afford
Like me I have a y1 Trans I got off Craigslist from someone I met before previous years but anyways 120$ tranny, I was going off what he said had no stamps no way to know what it is or even if it works, to get inspected by my buddy free$.he took it apart basicly my gear selector was shot 3-4 gear synchros and springs were so dam thin they were going to snap. 200$ in parts and 200$ labor now I got new synchros new gear selector new springs will be paired with new clutch,pp, using my old flywheel still new
The issue isn’t that big def if it’s still driving somewhat
