sounds like sti, runs like grannie is driving

ok so i fill up my tank then start driving, all of a sudden at low rpms my car would sound like an STI, or i should say miss firing BAD. and i’m not accelerating so fast, so i punch it and when i finally reach a random rpm my car seems fine. i’m blowing ALOT of smoke with this, and you hear it when i start up not during idle, and when in any gear trying to accelerate. its pissing me off that no matter what i do to fix this car something else breaks i love DAs but i’m hating this one. really wish i had friends that lived near me that knew about my car.

sound like the ignition to me. I had the same problem uptill about 2k rpm then it would run fine.

a couple of things i would check would be,
–moisture in the distributor, or in the plug shutes.
–frayed spark plug wires
–corroded contacts

for me, those symptoms indicated the ignition charge was grounding out before the plug.

thanks, i’ll check those things as soon as i can, i just replaced the distributor and i already checked the connections, but i have no idea about anything on the ignition exept distributer to sparkplugs. lol

ok, so i checked what you said and even checked the fuel injectors. everything is ok. but still making the problem??? if i didn’t like DAs so much i would hate them. lol

if it didnt happen til after u filled up might be that the gas you got was bad

i think its more than the gas, i’m goin to make a correction in the sound, i was driving it today to go to school and work, and its always sounding like two or three cylinders are fireing, like a chopper. it also has a real bad lack of power, i have a feeling its one of the following, please let me know if its possible.

-piston rings
-fuel pressure regulator
-bad pistons :sad:
-throttle body
-fuel injector
-cams
-timing

its really pissing me off.:surrend: i’m about to say screw it, but i love my teg. please help me keep it.

ok, so i checked the spark and realized i wasn’t getting any spark or cumbustion in cylinder 2 so i replaced the spark plugs and ureka it worked…welll at least until my way home from work only 7 miles after the change… what is goin on.

Not to be an ass, but have you considered bringing the car to a mechanic?
It seems you really don’t know these cars too well, and people can’t diagnose cars over the internet. Best case scenario, people will guess. Just suck it up and bring it to a mechanic. Your wallet and sanity will thank you.

my sanity might thank me but my wallet won’t, i have a mechanic that could look at it but charge out the wahoo. and i pretty much have only lived here for a year so i don’t know anyone around that would know this car. i do agree i am learning and hoping to make this car my dream. but untill then i need to figure stuff out before i go to a mechanic.

check and replace you sparkplug wires

take the distributor cap off look at the points after a while some whitish crap builds up on them take scotchbrite and scuff them til the crap is gone

or just save yourself a headache and change dstributor cap rotor wires and plugs chances are its you distributor

as stated above these are just guesses based on my own experiences what color is the smoke? if it is white is a headgasket if its blue its oil and if its black its fuel no CEL’s? your CEL will help you narrow it down to what it is…
might have to bite the bullet and take it to a mechanic unless you can find a local who knows about these cars
