First off, 90 integra DOHC LS 5 spd, I changed the leaky valve cover gasket in the fall which came with the SP tube seals (which only two of the tubes were leaking with the old ones) and VC bolt grommets from Rock auto… I just got a new set of plug wires which i put off till i found a set of beck/arnley on rock auto for $15, I went to put them on today after they came and all four tubes were half full of oil, I removed the valve cover and i sucked oil out of tubes with a vaccum syphen and used parts cleaner to clean the residue and syphened all that out apon inspecting the valve cover gasket and tube seals the vc gasket seemes fine but the tube seals are hard as hell and need relaced after what… 8 months… they are still under warranty and im getting replacements but is this common? is there different tube seals for certain engines? I dont tunderstand why they crapped out so fast… also i heard there might be another seal that needs replaced in the spark plug tube… i dunno any help or advice from younz guys would make my shitty day better, thanks
I’ve never had to replace them because they were leaking, always did it as preventative maintenance while I was working on other things (I’ve owned at least 1 DA at all times for over 12yrs now). They should last years. Easy. If I had to wager a guess, I’d say your problem is likely the fact that you didn’t use OEM seals or that you didn’t install them correctly. I don’t even bother with non-OEM parts for all the gaskets/seals…etc Only aftermarket stuff I’ll use are parts which have been proven to have some benefit over the OEM pieces they are replacing whether it be performance or longevity. I know the fender liner which I ordered from RockAuto was a complete piece of crap, ended up throwing it in the trash.
x2^^^
The problem is that parts which cost half the price they should…are total garbage. You should just throw those $15 plug wires in the trash cause even a 150k mile set of OEM wires are better than those. Sure they may work “ok” but working properly is a different story. Do yourself and your car a favor and buy from the dealer when it comes to things like seals, gaskets, pumps, and belts for your motor, and for god sakes buy a tube of honda bond for VC gaskets.
In the end you always get what you pay for.
It’s the most true statement you can live by when it comes to your car, or anything for the most part.
i’m going to guess that it’s an install problem, SP tube seals dont just go out that fast
It’s kinda hard to install those tube seals incorrectly. Was the motor hot when you did it?
even a broken clock is right at least 2 times a day lol
after 8 months sounds very unusual… did u make sure the valve cover was torqued down properly? and were the seals installed correctly … its not hard at all… they probably got hard because there aftermarket or deffective… make sure you torque everything down!!! and installl them right lol get new plugs while your at it
