I would like to replace the fabric that goes over the rear speakers. They are missing and i dont know what they were made of. What is a good fabric that would not fade from the sun and will still allow good sound to go thru it?
go to a fabric store and they should have speaker cover fabric. thats what i did. hopefully they have the same thing at your fabric store.
Speaker cloth, found at most car audio shops, or spandex, found at any fabric shops.:hmm:94
LMAO spandex . yea i got some of that laying around lol j/k
thanx ill get some tomorrow
[QUOTE][LMAO spandex . yea i got some of that laying around lol j/k
/QUOTE]It was not a joke, I have been using it as grill cloth for 25 years, it’s reasonably strong, comes in just about any color, [4 - 5 shades of black alone] stretches in all directions, [very easy to attach to any shaped grill without folding or clumping and will not “pucker” in 6 mon.], it’s acoustically transparent.
What would be better?:sipread:94
I took the fabric off and left it off…
Bumping thread back from the dead!
I’d like to add my input here. I removed the cloth from my speakers several years ago. I don’t have tint on my hatch and I just realized today that my speakers are disintegrating. If you park your car in the sun a lot, I would suggest covering them back up. I’m not talking about the surrounding foam or rubber etc., I’m talking about the actual speaker itself. I have Infinity Kappas.
woa this is so old im knitting seat covers now :nana:
thats what i was worried about. i did get some offline though, and have tint so im good
I bought some spandex / polyester material from a fabric store for $5 and recovered mine last night. I used 3M spray adhesive around the edges of the grill. Here are some crappy cell phone pix. They came out really well.
I had to ask someone to help me find the fabric. It’s the same that’s used for swimsuits / dancing outfits (that’s what it said on the “roll”). It was going for $15 for a 36" x 36" piece. I just got a 12" x 36" piece. I have a lot left over - probably enough to do 3 or 4 more covers. I’ll post up some better pictures once I get my digital camera back.
^ i had the same problem as you
when i got my car it didn’t come with rear speakers since it’s an RS. i got the rear cover from the scrap yard and the grills had no fabric on them. when my fusion speakers faded from green to white, wrapped them with speaker cloth. i gotta do them again because now the cloth is faded to light gray.
