I am using 4 sony 6 and 1/2 xplode speakers…(i know ,i know they suck)…
To make things worst i am using a very very old cd player(with very old wires )…My question to you guys is , “Is there a way to upgrade the speaker wires to a better/ higher guage to increase the listening quality?”
Since the HU is quite old, as you said, I’d say that changing the wires wouldn’t make much of a noticeable difference, however, if you wanted to change the wires, just follow their path (or make your own path, using common sense, wire-ties, and ingenuity) to run new stuff. It’s not hard, but then again, I really think it’s unnecessary in this situation.

as you may have noticed the wires used on many head units for the speakers are pretty small…same with the stock wirings to the speakers. the reason for this is that the head unit isnt pushing out that much watts. maybe 25 watts rms per channel at the most for the high end head units and as low as 5 watts rms per channel on cheap or stock head units, so those those wires and the stock wires will handle the job just fine. but if you go with an external amp (30+watts/channel) with some high quality speakers, you should definately upgrade your speaker wires to 14 or 16 gauge to allow the least amount of resistance for the power to flow and be able to handle the higher wattage. for sub applications, 12 gauge is the smallest wire gauge you should use.
