hey wasup, just installed dc headers tonite w/ some friends, yet we couldnt get the 02 sensor out, i left my car book at home, when i got there i read that u shoudl try to take it out after car being warm(hence) downpipe still being intact with stock header etc. to late for that, car sounds like crap since exhaust is coming out of that little hole, what could i do to get it out any one know. tried firing it with torch, no work!!
Your supposed to remove the sensor while it’s still attached to the car. This is because the exhaust metal expands when at operating temp. The sensor has already set to this expanded size and becomes near impossible to remove when the exhaust cools/contracts. You’re not supposed to use solvents to clean the sensor, but it may be alright to use a rust penetrator to help loosen the fit. Also the normal operating temp is 600 degrees, so heat it up and try again. I also know that 92-93 tegs have heated elements not 90-91’s, this might make it even more fragile?
Yea, its easier to unscrew that lil sob when the thing’s hot. But, since you can’t do that. Get a wrench that wraps around it, and get a hammer. Hammer at the edge connecter really hard at the sides of the wrench. Don’t hammer too hard or you’ll dent the o2 sensor.
Why hammer it? well when you bang at it, it loosens up the threads of the o2 sensor from the 10+ years its been on there from gases and heat.
But i would strongly suggest you go out and buy a new o2 sensor for your new headers. When i got my new o2 sensor due to my mishap(read my other thread) it cleared some hestitation problems i had. You’ve got to replace your o2 sensor anyway since its pretty old. Plus you’ll get better gas mileage with a new one.
oh and btw: new Bosch o2 sensors costed me roughly 30 bux for a new one at a local autozone. You can get em at pepboys or kragen or any local automotive shop.
ahh shift
hey dudes, i got a bosch universal 02 sensor, 70$ BUKS ,imean i was hearing 30$ all the time, what did i do wrong, anyway i pluged that hole in so no more buzzing, but didnt actually plug it in ill do it sat, i didnt have timetoday haha. anyway, i dint feel much increase in my headers…well is it because my 02 sensor isnt in?, maybe, but anyway i did the reset ecu thing, yet i dont think it reset it, becuase last time i did it, the clock went out, and everthing reset, this time it didnt happen so ill do that
what should i do
thanks guys
Plug in your O2 Sensor. Without it, you can plug your cat (does take a while though.)
Your Teg should run better once the O2 sensor is plugged it. To reset the ECU, all you need to do is pull the ECU fuse located under the hood and leave it out for about 5 mins. Then you should let the car idle (without touching the gas) until the rad fan kicks in.
The clock and radio shouldn’t be reset by removing the ECU fuse.

man you ust have went to ripoff auto parts because you got taken! 70 bucks!!! Sounds more like the direct fit to me but even overpriced for that.
As for getting the sensor out, get an O2 sensor socket. If you have an impact wrench to use it will come right out. Otherwise, what i have done is just take the pipe to a local auto parts store and have them remove it. This should be free- dont pay for it.
please keep in mind that the O2 sensors for the 92-93 tegs cost more than double the amount of the 02 sensors for the 90-91 tegs.

I got mine an NTK for $80 usd from the Partsbin.com . My car is a 90 though.
good point
yeah, i never , well forgot about the different 02 sensors for 91 and 92, i have 92, 70 buks…but its worth it, better then having a 12 year old one in there or so.
cool
thanks guys
