Spoon TypeR pistons in a b18a1????

A buddy is getting ready to swap my old b18a1 into his 90 CRXsi.
He want to find out if the Spoon balanced Type R pistons will fit.
Can someone please help???

Oh Yeah, I swapped a B16 into my 90 teg almost a month ago.
“Nice…Very Nice…”

the spoon pistons will fit as long as you have the rods shaved (in order to put any b18c or b16b pistons on LS rods the rods will need to be shaved).

any reason why he’s going w/ the spoon pistons? it would probably be more cost effective to go for something else, some pr3’s or p30’s maybe. Just a suggestion.

I believe he has to shave 1mm on each side of the rod, and bore the cylinders .25 over. Correct me if I’m wrong. Because I am also slapping some ITR pistons in my B18a. Peace.

You only need to overbore your block if it’s scored or otherwise required. If not, the bore on all B-Series (except the B20 of course) is the same. In otherwords, if your cylinders are in good shape, you only need to have them hone them, shave 1mm of each side of your rods, re-balance and you’re set.

The only time that you need to go .25 over on your cylinders is if you have .25 over pistons…

yup, if the pistons are standard, then you keep standard bore, if they are oversized, then obviously you need to bore out a little. Personally i’m not taking any risks (because i’ve yet to see the condition of the cylinders in my engine), typically standard and oversized are the same price (sometimes oversized is actually less!), so i bought oversized for my engine.

He is getting pistons, pins and rings for about 330 bucks.
Thats a pretty fair price for balanced pistons. Thanks for all the help guys…peace.

Arn’t the ITR pistons balanced from the factory?

i think so but you see the difference is itr psitons are 10:6 to1 comp in a c5, jdm itr are 10;8to1 and the balance spoon itr are 11:1 comp in a c5!i like em!

thats a VERY good price! my oversized p30’s w/ rings and wrist pins cost me that much. as will itr’s or ctr’s if you order from JHP.

ryan, you’ve got a little bit of your info crossed:
usdm itr pistons in c5: 10.6:1
jdm itr pistons in c5: 11.1:1
spoon balanced itr pistons in a c5: 11.1:1 compression

spoon just balances them, they don’t change compression.

in a b18a:
usdm itr 10.3:1
jdm itr 10.8:1
pr3 10.8:1
p30 11:1
pct (ctr) 11.4:1

Oh, and i guess i was sort of off on the price, i thought $330 was a hell of a deal. But inlinefour.com sells them for $360…so you still got a good deal, but i had just figured since they were spoon they’d cost an arm and a leg.

oh my bad im just a white guy trying to fix my motor! dont mind me! hehe! thx for the correction colin! you gonn ago to the la meet on july 6th i will be there man!

i’m not sure if i’ll be there or not. My fam is vacationing in mammoth around that time so i’m not sure if i’ll be back or not. Plus i’m a little short on cash (i’ve got $18, and need to pay a $27 parking ticket) which means no $$ to drive all the way to LA.

oh, and that partking ticket i got… you’ll never guess what its for. I went to the beach in oceanside, and parked in one of those parking lots where you just pay a $1 to park for a few hours. Only thing i did wrong was back into the parking space! I couldn’t believe they actually gave me a ticket for backing into a parking space!!! I’m so pissed that i have to pay $27 just for backing in!!!

are you going to the north meets south get together later in july? I’m not sure if’ll i’ll make it to that one either cause its pretty far off. I believe santa barbara is probably at least a 5hr drive from here.

yeah its on july 20th in santa barbara! im going to both but yeah that sucks about the parking ticket!

take care colin!

That is an okay price, you can get them at
http://www.jdmhondaparts.com/frameset.htm
anytime for that price, but you have to pay shipping if you can’t pick up. Look around that site, they got some good stuff and it’s all reasonable.

i never noticed that jhp also had the spoon pistons. And they sell the balanced spoon itr’s for the same price as the itr’s direct from honda (not balanced by spoon).

I recently bought my p30 pistons from jhp. I’ve heard that jhp is sort of flaky… but my experience with them was great. They were shipped out fast, and they arrived very quickly, and packaged well. all total with 8.5% tax and shipping the total came to about $367. (would be same price for itr’s, spoon itr’s, or ctr’s).

If you are really patient and look around you can get great deals on pistons.

I bought 2 brand new sets of Spoon balanced, 25 over JDM P73 pistons for ~$250 each set. Did I mention that they came with pins and rings as well?

What would the compression ratio be when putting the JDM ITR Spoon Sports .25 over pistons in a B17A?
Brian

BR and Ive - Where did you get your pistons for $250?

You should be looking at around 10.77:1 with those pistons in the b17.

To find a deal like that all you have to do is be patient and wait for that deal to pop up. Then you have to hope your the first one to jump on it.
