SQUEAK from front right wheel. replaced axle and rotors and pads

guy at the shop said that it was the warning pins on the brakes telling you that they’re almost dead so i had him resurface the brakes. my cv boot was also ripped so he replaced the axle.

its still squeaking from the wheel though, not as loud but still very annoying.

everything the dude did was:

adjust clutch cable
tighten a bunch of bolts on front right suspension
new front right axle
new front brake pads
resurface front brake rotors

im not sure if its a spinning part or what because when the car is off and just sitting there you can push down on the front right fender and hear the squeak…

SOO annoying. please help.

If you push down on the fender at a stand-still, then obviously it ain’t the brakes. I had this problem before. Check your lower balljoints. Chances are, it’s that. You might want to also check anything with a rubber mount. Things such as the Upper Control Arm, Lower shock rubber thingy (okay, it’s been a while since I helped, so bite me  ).

But, my money is on the lower balljoint. It’s out of grease. If it is the case, I suggest changing it rather than re-greasing it. It’s only $30CAD each.

Sounds like a wheel bearing, but…

if it squeaks under suspension compression, it could just be a bushing. Do you have any poly bushings, or a camber kit? My springs creak sometimes…

Bushings! That’s the word I was looking for!

if you push from the SIDE it also squeaks.

you can push on either side of the car either down or to the side and it squeaks. you can even shut the door kinda hard and it’ll do a little squeak.

if its ball joints how long would it take a shop to do it? ($82/hr at the shop i go to)

also if the ball joint stays like this what happens when its completely destroyed… does the wheel fall off like when a wheel bearing goes out or what?

If it’s the lower balljoint, it should only take 30 minutes. 45min. max! I was right there in front of my mechanic watching him do it while talking on the phone at the same time :uhoh:

What your mechanic should do first is isolate the sound. Once it’s on the lift, he should be able to prod around with a crowbar and push things up-and-down and isolate that noise. You can do this yourself if you like.

heres an update:

i have skunk2 springs (not coilovers) on my car (pretty stiff) and with 2 fingers i can push down enough on the fender to hear the squeak

you hear the squeak going anything above 1mph

the car shakes a little bit going 70mph+, no shake at all before 70

there is no squeak when turning anything more than slightly to the right (weight transferred off of the front right wheel)

the squeak gets louder when you turn left (more weight transfered to front right wheel)

it is not the warning pins on the brakes or the axles because i got those replaced this morning, done professionally.

k the squeak is gone, i sprayed the fuck out of all the bushings on the front right suspension with silicon spray.

the vibrations past 70mph are cuz i slung a wheel weight

Lower ball joints

I agree with the Ozman,i think it`s your lower ball joints. I had the same symptoms last spring, and yes,the wheel can fall off if not changed.

i found out that its the right tie rod end. i had it replaced a while back cuz i curbed a wheel pretty bad and it bent the original one and i guess they used suck parts cuz its gone bad already.

where is the lower ball joint located for future reference? anyone have a diagram?
