squeaking noise when steering.....

my teg is making this sqeaking noise only when i steer to the right. axles will usually click if they’re going bad right?i’m thinking it could be ball joints?if it is something with my steering system wouldn’t it do it when i steered both ways?i checked fluid level and it is ok. any ideas would greatlly help!

thanx everyone,
shawn

brake bads

could be the cv boot for the click and as for te squeeking it’s probably the ball joint.

sometimes my steering wheel squeaks when it’s really cold outside, I doubt it’s the ball joint though

could be ur lower ball joint.

thanx for the replies!
there is no clicking sound, just a squeak as though something is dry.it squeaks whether it is cold or warm. how hard is the lower ball joint to replace?is it expensive?am i able to lube it somehow?could this be something in the steering box?i think it is a ball joint though. any more answers would be great.

shawn:)

lower ball joint is not too expensice should only be about 100 buck canadian

Did you fix your problem? I have the exact same problem. Although it will squeek more when turning right, it will squeek plenty turning left. The sound truly sounds like it is directly related to the steering rack or wheel but I am not an expert in this area. I have had all my ball joints done within the last 2 years and I check them regularly (this isn’t the problem for sure – I am anal about checking these).

Would a bad seal in the rack cause this noise?? Perhaps a failing PS pump??

Thanks,

Andrew.

Check the simple things first…like power steering fluid level, the PS belt, etc…

What i have found out

Guys,

I am almost positive, that the squeaking sound is a leak in the rack and pinion. Just keep adding Honda PS fluid until you can get that replaced or fixed

After some research, I noticed that many auto manuf. have TSBs for this problem. More often than not, it’s a vinyl or rubber boot that fits tightly around the steering coloumn at the base. This rubs against the column itself and causes the squeaking noise. Suggested fixes have ranged from pulling out the boot (away from the steering column) and injecting silicone lubricant behind it – to… sanding down the worn finish behind it with some fine grit paper and then lubing it. Many have suggested replacing the boot with a new part or a donor part from a wreck.

I am still unsure as to what’s causing it but I think I’m more capable of lubricating the column than I would be perhaps to replace the rack. Have any of you replaced a rack before?? Is it difficult? FYI… My PS fluid level has never dropped and has always been in the right place. It has only ever been replaced with Honda fluids and was done maybe 8mo. ago.

Thanks for any help or commentary,

Andrew.

aka neex.

neex,…yes it’s fixed.i think

i ended up changing front brake rotors and pads and now it doesn’t squeek anymore.i have no idea what i did but it hasn’t done it since.
