when i come to a complete stop with car in the drive position and brakes applied. there is a squealing noise coming from between the console and glove box. it slightly goes away when i put the car in neutral. anyone know of this?
:stare: If this is a 1947 willys jeep, I know what it might be.
If this is a 2gen teg with ABS, I would know what it is, but, since you seem to think all cars are the same…
its a 92 teg LS, automatic and no ABS…my bad!

Wheww, non abs, and behind the glove box? Sure it’s not coming from the engine bay? Sound like pwr steering belt/pump or a water pump noise. You have an alarm system in this car? Does it happen only when the blower motor is on? The only moving part on that side of the car behind the console is the blower. Is the sound metal rub squeak or continuous:think:
its coming from inside the car and no i dont have an alarm. when i push on part of the instrument panel where the a/c heating controls are. the noise goes away. idling at a stop light is slighty rough.
ummm, i think ur describing it wrong, not to trip on u or anything, but u might have squealing confused with squeeking. does it sound like 2 smooth plastic pieces rubbing each other? squealing is the sound when the belts r loose or whatever. squeeking is similar, but u should be able to tell the difference.
evtsteward is right about the blower motor tho. but if u say its coming from the inside the car, and u dont have the blower on, then i think some of ur panels need to be tightened or kinda adjusted, then retightened. sometimes the plastic panel aren’t down tight enough cuz those plastic anchors get worn, n the screw doesn’t hold it down tight enough so they vibrate, making a squeeking sound especially when at idle. try removing tjhe dash shroud, tighten the a/c controls, and all that, then put the shroud back on. check for spots that don’t seat fully (usually the side farthest to the right). if needed put a washer/piece of paper or something to fill in the gap, and see if it changes anything.
but if this is squealing, i think u can see if its the accessory belts making the noise, by spraying some water onto the belts (with a spray bottle) and seeing if they squeak when the car is on and everything spinning. that was a tip i heard from a friend, but nvr tried it myself.
Nicely done “squeeze”, also check out the glove box support brkt, IIRC it is metal and if the attach screws are loose that could be part of this dilemma. Strange noises are always a bitch to pin down. Wonder if he’s got an aftermarket stereo with the famous “cage” thats stressing (lock tabs not set correctly) in the opening?
ok ok ok. squeeking it is! lol, i do have an aftermarket radio. i will tighten the screws on the dash. thanks for the input!
yeah, i’ve had my share of annoying squeeks n squeals. so yeah. and i totally forgot about the aftermarket strereo mounts thing, since i’m rolling around with the stock tape deck now =) . it would be nice to find one that didn’t have that crumby/cheap/flimsy/brittle/POS around the edge.
in my old da, the head unit and the bracket would pop out if i ever launched or shifted hard. then it would squeek cuz it wasn’t in properly
i know right. if i push hard on the buttons of my after market stereo it will fall out to the back of the dash…ghetto!
 I better go buy a lotto ticket if I get this one right, Loose stereo cage.
yea evtsteward is most likely right on that part with ur stereo issue. sounds like u got multiple issues with ur dash. if u ever get a free weekend, get a manual and disassemble ur dash, then put it back together. or u could just do portions of where the problems are at.
