so this has been happening for a long time now but ive been able to sort of narrow it down. but the problem is… everytime i brake from an accel or downshift, turn sharp or hit a bump hard i hear a clunking sound that appears to be comming from the front pass side suspension. when im crusing in gear then let off the gas, the car sort of slows down then i hear the clunk sound and the the car moves down a little bit so i think its having an effect of the caster or somthing.
recently it rained and i didnt hear the clunk until today when it was hot outside and it came back. so far i have replaced the bushings in that bar that connect from the front lower control arm to the crossmember, top strut mount bushings, and i just built some new lower control arms with energy suspension bushings in them but havent put them in yet. people told me it could be my coilovers but my coilovers have never made that noise before. im thinking its either a lower or upper ball joint but i would like to get some other opinions or advice
just get it on the hoist and try prying the motor back and forth and side to side. from what you’ve explained, clunking on accel/decel, is pretty synonymous with motor mount issues. that’s not to say it’s indefinite, but it’s the first place i’d look
Eventhough you said you put in new bushings for the rod that connects to the crossmember… did you torque it to spec? Those tend to cause clunk if they are loose.
Also, jack up the car and rock the tire side to side, up and down to see if there’s any play. If there are, then it’s probably your ball joints or tierods.
You’d also mentioned that you didn’t replace your worn out front lca’s, replace those and see if the clunking goes away cuz sometimes worn enough bushings will cause the bushing pins to hit the metal ring of the lca thus causing clunks.
