Today I went to start up my 92 GSR project with a weak battery. Hooked up the charger waited a few minutes to charge. Turned the key everythings seems normal (fuel primes).
Turn the key and engine cranks but no start. (checked wires and all seemed intact). Turn up the charger to “engine start”. Turn the key and hear the starter clicking but not cranking. I tried to crank the engine again and now the clicks have become less noticeable and finally no clicks at all. Also the fuel does not seem to prime anymore.
I smelled something burnt from inside the car and shut everything off and inspect for damage or sign of fire. Hook everything back up and turn the key to on and see the high beam, directionals, and e-brake lights on and stay on regardless of fuse being pulled. After removing my cluster it seems a part of the electrical was burnt.
Here is what happens at the turn of the key to start:
-cigarette relay clicks
-hear a click from inside the engine bay
-if blower is on it will stop as key is turned
-with the push of the clutch the starter relay will click
-not sure if the starter relay is click at since the only thing i hear is the cigarette relay
I checked the schemtaics of the starting system and see the the pgmfi is somewhat electrically related to the starting system seeing that the starter relay signals the pgmfi.
Interesting thing happened today. A thought came to mind to try and get a reading on my blk/wht starter cable. So I disconnected the wire, turned the ignition on and saw that the fuel now primes.§
I am no electrician and happen to get these results by shear luck. But if any of you are skilled in this area (fcm) maybe you could help me out.
The seatbelt light stays on regardless of belts being buckled. Hopefully the light are connected to my problem and be fixed.
— Let it be known that my ecu connectors were cut when I bought the car so there is a possibility I may have wired something incorrect. However the car did run before all this.
Today I tested the blk/wht starter wire and found only .465 V coming to it. I also tested the 2 pin chassis harness and found .465 V. Now I’m pretty sure I used the correct setting (DC) and the dvom i have is auto. So that means I am not geting voltage which means the relay or wiring could be the problem.
But why does the fuel not prime when the starter cable is connected?
mines haveing the same problem. i get all power at dash fuel promes when i go to start no crank at all just clicks tried a new starter relay changed icu tried 3 differnt pr4s and a p61 nothing
i did and it cranks i am getting power at the black and white wire at the harness plug but not where it connects to the starter could it be my engine harness?
After my fuel issues fixed themselevs my stater only clicked. Took apart my stater and sanded the solenoid contacts. It wasnt too dirty but its the original starter so a cleaning was needed. Now it does give me any problems. You will need two extensions (one standard and one wobble) for the bottom bolt.
Also make sure the connectors are secure on the battery and starter and have a decent battery.
