Starting Issues

Hi everyone,

I have an integra 92 gsr. I’ve been having this starting issues for a few months and I finally getting annoy of it. Every morning when I start my car it will take a while a for the engine to fire up. I upgraded my iginition system to msd with SS coil hoping it will solve the problem yet I’m still having the same issue. I replaced the spark plugs a couple of weeks ago and that didn’t help. I am thinking my fuel pump is causing this starting issue? What you do you guys think?

Anyone???

It’s been less than 2 hours since you posted. Give it some time. People are at work and those who see this may not have enough knowledge to give you an answer.

Explain this better if you can please. If you mean by turning the key to start the engine, is there a delay before the engine starts? If that is your problem, it may be your starter. Or do you mean the engine keeps turning before its fires up? With that I don’t know.

it’s definitely not the starter because it has no issues cranking. The starter is new. I replaced it a year ago.

Are you sure that you have fuel pressure when you try to start the car? Main fuel relay may not work all the time, main fuel also powers the fuel injectors. (two relay inside the box)
Is there power to the ignition system when the key is turned all the way to start? Ignition switch may not work all the time in the start mode.

hope this helps you out.

AZ is your problem only in the morning? How long before it finally starts?

I’m pretty sure I have fuel pressure. I do have another main fuel relay. I will swap it out tonight let see what happen tomorrow morning. There is power to the ignition system when the key is turned.

I’m not sure what exactly is “AZ”. Well I have a push start in my car. The push start will crank for approximately 3 second before it stops cranking. I have to hit the push start the second time in order for the car to fire up.

Anyone???

Is there voltage at relay on the starter? It should be 12 volts when the key is turned all the way to start. If not check the the starter relay it is on the left heater box behind the glove box. Do you have a button to start your car?

Is it hooked to the relay on the starter or the one under the dash? Does it have 12 on both sides of the button when the car will not start?

alright, first thing you want to do here is narrow it down. you want to find out if this is a fuel related issue or ignition. to do that, install a fuel pressure gauge. when the problem occurs, keep an eye on that gauge. if you have no fuel pressure when cranking, it’s probably not priming. if you do, it’s likely ignition related. after you know this, you can further diagnose the issue
