starting rebuild need help??

so i just picked up a spare b18a1 today for $50 its a bare block but came with a crank, what kind of parts should i use to have the same reliability of my original motor, i need rods, pistons, rings, bearings and gasket set, and dont have a big budget either, it came with a head as well but none of the cam caps or anything where there so ill just re-use my current head. i plan on keeping it as a daily driver but i do push my car pretty hard at times, and dont want to be building a motor im gonna have to get tuned. whats some good parts, brands and or links to help me out.

If you don’t want it tuned, then keep it stock.

It doesn’t make much sense to buy a bunch of aftermarket goodies if you’re only wanting stock-specs… nor does your budget seem to allow it.

Might as well just rebuild your current B18 and just replace bearings/seals/etc… that way you have the reliability of a stock motor, because, it will be a stock motor.

I agree with Uni. I had originally planned on doing a fresh ground up rebuild for my motor until I found good deals for an ls/vtec. I may have mainly stock motor, but that’s because my budget wont allow it right now lol.

I was sweeping through autoshops, and if you’re okay for not going with OEM gaskets, Sealed Power makes a full rering kit for our motors for around 400 bucks. Part number is 205-6874M

Comes with everything you need. I’d recommend having the rods spec checked getting new pistons, maybe bump the compression up a bit.

I DID order my upper end gasket kit on eBay from a company named Eristic. They’re ISO approved and have a good review. Nobody has ever complained about them with Honda’s either, but in my opinion, ALWAYS run an OEM head gasket. The kit itself was only 43 bucks from the head up.

i cant just pull out my motor and replace bearings and seals, i drive it everyday

Then you’re looking at a full rebuild of the other motor. That way you can do it at you’re own time, no rushing. What Uni is saying is don’t go throwing aftermarket crank, rods and pistons, race bearings ect. into a motor that is stock spec.

If you can find someone local with the internals that’d be the way to go, but don’t go throwing $1000 + in a bottom end that you’re only gonna see stock power out of. It’s not feasible.

Well, if u buy all that stuff it sure isnt stock specs anymore… lol.

It will be if he buys new OEM parts instead of aftermarket ones.

I should have specified POWER haha.
