Steam cleaners are the sh-t!

I rented a steam cleaner to clean the seats and carpeting of my Teg yesterday. My car already had some of the cleanest interior around compared to some of the other members, and I decided to give it a good cleaning anyways. I thought there would be no dirt or grime coming up due to the fact that it already looked brand new. WOW, I was wrong. There was so much crap that came up off the carpet that there were tears in my eye! about a month before the steam cleaner I tried some of that auto-carpet cleaning foam, and it did get dirt up, but obviously not much compared to this! If you think your car is clean… it isn’t. If you want to be amazed then go rent 1 for $20., its worth it. :whoa:

Is it just like the regular carpet cleaners you can rent (Rug Doctor) except that the liquid is superheated? Or are you talking about the handheld ones that you use to clean bathrooms etc.

It was the Rug-Doctor. I boiled the water, and poured it in.

hell yes i’ve done that ****, its amazing.

I never thought about boiling the water… DUH :stuck_out_tongue: I used the rug doctor with the regular solution and it sucked out a lot of dirt that’s for sure.

Yea, I don’t like using solutions other than water on my interior because it will always leave some of the solution in your seats/carpeting, and you never really know if it will fade or harm the interior at all. Water does not leave anything in there, and if you use very hot water it works just as good if not better than solutions, foams, and, sprays.

Very good idea. my interior is so dirty. does it work on the seats? I hauled a chicken wing tray from tgifridays to work and I had the tray in ym front seat and it was tilted back. There was literely a puddle of grease sitting in my seat. I soake dup what I could and then just tucked a towel on the seat. it’s still sticky and all over the place haha. Will it get that up?

my car becomes a bigger POS everyday.

btw is there a little attachment to clean in little places?

I have a home rug cleaner that has a little attachment that has two round scrubbers that rotate.

Ok, it will work for sure. I got 5 year old coffee stains up from my friends jeep. go rent the Rug-Doctor, boil a big thing of water, add a couple scoops of Oxi-clean, and then steam away!

Told ya CK

Where’d you rent it CK?

I am hesitant about the oxi-clean base don the fact that one of our members killed the interior with it. If you guys know who this was, maybe we could find out what NOT to do with oxi-clean.

FWIW… a few years back, some clown/s tried to boost my gf’s 240sx and failed miserably (some creative secuirty wiring helped I guess). Anyway, they were discouraged because they couldn’t get it to turn over (even after doing the steering column) so they found the quart of Mobile1 in the hatch and dumped it on the white front bucket seats. I used Simple Green and then a Bissel steam cleaner to get it up and it looks mint still today. If you go through the effort of using a hot steam and getting every morsel of dirt up, you might as well get some Scotch Guard (for auto interiors) and protect the time you invested.

I have found Simple Green to be the best and safest cleaner I have ever used. I’ve used a zillion of them too. As far as getting the Simple Green specially formulated for automotive use – no idea if it’s any better – I always used the regular shyte.

I hope this helps a little.

Yea, I didn’t use oxi-clean n my interior due to the fact that I only trust water. Anything else is a risk!

I use oxi-clean all the time. I haven’t noticed any bad things happening while using it.

now i am not chem major; actually a buisness and spanish double major, but i took chem 2wice (failed the 1st time and squeaked by with a 65 the 2nd in high school  ) but i BELIEVE that all that the oxi clean does is remove a oxygen ion and make the color of the stain neutral…so the stain is gone, but whatever was there in the first place is still there just colorless…?? if i am wrong excuse my stupidity  if i am right…well theres a first time for everything

but either way i am goin to rent a steam cleaner and do my interior!! damn snow and dirty shoes

joe:)

That was my understanding too but it does sound like a bit of a ‘snake oil’ claim. I read a post about someone who literally decimated their interior using Oxi Clen so that’s why I was curious…

Thanks for the insight…

It is actually more of a soap. if you mix it with a bit of water and feel it with your hands, it is actually a soapy substance.

I heard it’s nothing more than powdered Hydrogen Peroxide and Sodium Bicarbonate… If that’s the case, go get some from the drug store and mix a little Baking Soda with it… presto… same thing.

Anyone care to give it a try?? lol

geez man… the steam cleaner does miracles, i used my moms home steam cleaner, just like a rug doc, when i bought my car, the previous owner had 2 dogs, and she let them run everywhere… i have a tan interior… i spent at least 10 hours steaming and scrubbing every inch of the car! now its pristine and good as new! highly recommended~ and for the vinyl interior pieces i just used a dishwashing sponge, the rough green side, and scrubbed the vinyl, it went from a dark burnt looking brown to a beautiful tan~ the cars soo… clean… me happy now…
