Exactly which year/model did the rack come out of?
i believe it was a 91 crx SI… but im not deffinate about the year… but from what i understand 88-91 civic/crx SI’s all had the same manual racks… other than that there was no problem installing it and everything looked pretty much the same as my old PS rack… just had to do a alignment after cuz the wheels where way way off. im talkin about pointing in differnt directions… lol but after that it was fine… just the pin that holds the rack in place kept coming out because the knuckle seemed too short.
do you mean the universal joint that connects the steering rack to the steering column? if so, then you will have to loosen the two bolts that hold the joint on the rack and column. then slide the joint either up or down to get it properly positioned. lastly, tighten the two bolts up.
i know that this is an old post.
but today i ventured out to a pick-and-pull after contemplating on whether or not to do this mod (obviously i am going to do it).
i found an 88 civic hatchback.
i believe it was a DX. (noway of telling no badges or anything and dont know anything about EF’s.)
but anyway its a manual rack(DUH). and i was wondering what INNER tie rods do i use?? i kno to use the DA OUTER tie rods but what about the inner ones??
From what I’ve gathered searching this up, you’d use the civic inner tie rods…
I’m using Civic inner rods, the outers are the same between Civic and Integra. Four years, no problems here.
thanks.
mr.penny what rack are you using?? si? dx?
DX here, I’m gonna upgrade to the Quaife rack and pinion eventually, but this suffices just fine for me right now.
is the lock-to-lock ratio really that bad?? because i dont have the money for the Quaife kit yet.
Nah, I think it’s more than the original power rack, but steering is improved a bunch. A lot less slop I would say.
