My steering wheel shakes and travels to the right a little when braking.
When brakes not pressed there is no vibration or steering wheel travel at any speed. If I turn left when braking the steering wheel shakes even more.
Is this most likely warped front rotors causing this?
Yeah I think it might be the rotors time for replacement.
I looked at them today in the light and the area where the pad touches them is worn down pretty good so much so there is a huge ridge on the edge of the discs. I put ceramic pads on a few years ago and didnt resurface them because they looked ok. But I think these ceramic pads are too hot for these old rotors.
I checked and mine are worn down several thousandths past service limit.
I think I am going to go with something a little higher friction. These Wagner Thermal Quiet pads run pretty hot and need rotors up to par with them.
I just jacked up the car again to look and the boot for the passenger side lower ball joint is gone!!!
That side it is leaning to when I hit the brakes. Also all the rubber in the front suspension looks rotted out.
Time for that overhaul I was going to do.
Just got the lower ball joints replaced with the $15 Mevotech’s from Rock Auto.
No more lean to one side when braking. The old ball joints were so loose it was almost impossible to separate them from the lower control arms.
