Stereo Installation

I am sure many of you have put systems in your car after you bought them so I figured this board would be the best place to get some help. I am installing a very nice Alpine system in my '90 RS Integra 2dr. I am just wondering where I should place the wires and all of that. I am putting in a cd player which will need some sort of grounding to the battery (I was told), I am putting 2, 12" subs in the hatchback part but I am confused as to how and where I should run the wire to the Amp (which will also be beside the subs) from the head unit. Anyways if any of you could let me know of any good places you have found to run wires and all of that stuff and any tips you have I would appriciate the information. I am hoping to have this system installed before the end of the weekend so I need to get to work :-).

hmm where to start… I’ll try to help as much as I can.

If I am reading your post correct, all you have to do is hook up the CD deck to all the wires of your old deck. I dunno if you are gonna be using adapters or slicing up the wires and doing it good old wire to wire style. Let me go get my sheet…
k, here are the wire colors and what they are, this is from my '91 GS, I dunno if all years were the same, I think so though.

Power (Ignition): Yellow/Red
Power (Constant): White/Blue
Power (Antenna): Yellow/Green
Illumination: Red/Black
Ground: Black

I have the speaker wire colors as well, but on my sheet here I can’t tell which is which hehe damn it.
I think something like this, but not sure:

Left front: Blue/Grey
Right front: Brown/Red
Left rear: white stripe (I think Blue/Grey with white stripe)
Right rear: white stripe (same as above but with right front)

Power wire from battery can be routed through the firewall through a black circular grommet located just above the gas pedal. On the driver’s side. There is another one on passenger side as well that I have heard, but I went through the driver’s side.

You should separate your power wire to the amp from your RCAs and remote wire. ie: run the power wire along the driver side, and the RCAs and remote along the passenger side to the rear. Can get noise distortion or weird sounds if running with eachother, but I have mine together cause I was too lazy to run it down both sides hehe, I have no noise so you can try it if you get lazy.

Ground the amp to a bare metal area somewhere. You may need to sand down the area of the paint and primer down to the metal. Silicon the ground wire to the metal area.

Just wondering if you have the box built already? If not I can try to give you the sketches I made when making my box.

Also is this Alpine deck one of those where you can angle it? If so, I am jealous, that is what I wanted. Hope you have a good time.

excellant reply I’m sure it’ll help me quite a bit. The 2 subs are already in it’s box…And yes it is the type that you can tilt :-P.
Thanks for the reply.

The alpine deck you have should have the power constant run directly to the battery. Its not totally necessary but its recomended. It should also have 10g powerwire already on the rear harness for the deck. Everything else MaximumSpeed said is pretty much on the spot. Just make sure you run power and signal lines on opposite sides of the car so you dont have to rerun the wires if you do get noise. Last but not least MAKE SURE YOU DISCONNECT THE BATTERY BEFORE DOING ANYTHING.
