This afternoon I decided to pull the car up into the garage and vacuum her out. So I brought her in, then I turned her off. I have Pioneer DEH-8400MP deck (the one with the double OEL display) and so I put the face on. I put in a CD and it started playing… then all of a sudden the deck turned off? I turned it back on and the same thing happened. I was seriously sitting there for about 10 minutes just watching it die, and I would just turn it back on. My battery light didn’t go on, so I don’t think it’s anything with that. I let her sit for about 15-20 minutes thinking that it would work after a little while. So I went in my car about 10 minutes ago, and I tried to turn it on. Now this time, the deck turned itself on and off about 10 times before staying on. I don’t know what’s happening, maybe something wrong with the wiring? I’m sitting at my computer right now and I can hear the deck playing in the background, but I’m positive that as soon as I go and sit in the car, it will turn off. Think it has something to do with the vibrations in the car? I turned it on and I sat down real quick and it turned off. I tried it again though, and it stayed on. This is really bugging seeing as how I got the deck not too long ago (about a month). I have a 4-year warranty on it, so I’m going to bring it into Best Buy if I don’t figure out what’s wrong with it. Shitty thing is, they have to send it out to Pioneer to get it fixed, and I’m stuck with the stock radio till it gets done. So…
Symptoms:
Stereo turns on and off mysteriously, sometimes because of vibrations, sometimes by itself.
Possible culprits: Loose wiring, battery, broken switches?
Remedy: ???
I would appreciate any stores on similar stories happening, but worst-case scenario, I would just bring it back and have it replaced.
I kinda had the same problem but it was with my amp. I have a phoenix gold tantrum 300 and I love the amp and it has worked fine and I have had it for about 2 yrs now and never had a problem with it, but just last week i was rollin down the street and the amp just went out the radio was still on but the amp was’nt. I jus thought it was a blown fuse so I check the power fuse under the hood and it was fine, then I checked the fuses to the amp and those were fine to but the amp still was’nt coming on. So I turned the car off and let it sit for about 10 mins and when i turned the car back on the amp was on again. So I kept rollin to the crib and it went out again. So when I got home I did a thorough check of the wires and all possibel fuses and nothing was blown, so I took the deck out and sure enough the remote wire from the stero to to the amp was lose at the point to where I had to splice into it at. I re-spliced it and made sure it was secure and I have’nt had a problem 4rm it since. So I would say it is just bad wiring, if you can pull your deck out and make sure nothing is lose or “half-way” connected, and if everything looks fine take it back and get another one or whateva best buy does. Hope this helps dawg…holla
Did you have Best Buy install it? (ugh). If so, bring it back and tell them your problem and have them re-install the wiring (make sure they use SOLDERED connections).
If the problem still persists, I’d have a reputable (read: not best buy) shop install it over again and then you’ll know for sure.
Best Buy should diagnose it for free if they did the install only a short time ago.
You guys would never believe me, but I found out the problem fairly quickly. My sister was standing behind my car hiding behind the bumper and turning it off from the outside everytime I turned it on. I swear I was about to kill her. I was wondering why sometimes it turned off due to vibrations, and sometimes just by itself. Stupid sister
