Sticky power window switches

If your window switches don’t always work, the down works but the up not so well, or don’t work at all, try this tip.

  1. Get the door panel off. There are a multitude of screws holding the panel on: just keep removing screws until you can yank at the lower rear corner of the panel and have it pop off. The hard part are the clips at the top by the window. To undo these you must yank the panel straight up to the sky pretty hard.

  2. Unplug and remove the window switches. To get the drivers switch off, look under the booty and push the metal rod out easy peasy.
To get the passenger switch off, use a small screwdriver to open the sides away from the switch.

  3. Under the switches you’ll see copper thingies. These and their respective contact points need to be cleaned with a solvent to remove carbon buildup.

Make sure all the contact surfaces are bright and shiny!

  4. Reinstall the copper thingies. I switched the passenger and driver clips, just so they could have new surfaces to wear down. Try out your switches before you pop the panel back on.
