Sticky vents

My airvents “freeze-up”. Can’t move them right-left. I tried spraying WD-40 into them, but that doesn’t work. It used to be some days better than others, now they’re locked in position. Any suggestion would be appreciated.

I guess I’ll have to take out the entire dash??? Any suggestions on which manuals are best for the amateur guy (Acura service manual or Haynes)?

TIA,

You’re talking about those circular things at the bottom of that air vents that you use to turn em left and right? Greasing em up works well, but you’ll have to grease them in the right spot, which is where that turning thing connects to the underside of the vent.

Which vents are stuck ?

Well, driver’s side on the left is already broken (just one tiny vent connected to the “circular things”) works…the other three vents (driver’s side right, and both passenger’s) are stuck. I’m trying to keep them from being broken too.

You’re right, I probably have to take apart the whole dash to get to those spaces. I just can’t imagine why they’d all go bad like that. Recommendations on a good manual for doing this?

Hey, I’ve done mine and they work fine. It took a hell lot of work to get the dash out. Any manual will tell you how to take the dash out so it shouldn’t be a problem. Be careful, the plastics harden up with time and become hard to remove.

Once u reach the vents, you will know instantly where to grease. I had a complete detailed post long time ago when I did it abt what to watch for and such.

Mine are still working up to date although they are getting a little harder again.

WD40 won’t do shi#t!!

Good luck.

My drivers’ side vent is stuck too. Luckily it’s aimed fine so I don’t feel the need to take apart the dash to get at it. But I do have to take apart my door panel to reattatch whatever the hell is rattling around in there.

hey, me too!! But I feel it is comming from the Safety belt side, you know from the upper part next to the door. I only hear it when the sound system in the car is off… I’ll take it apart, but not just yet, I’m too busy these days…
