This is my first car. I know about cars but I’m not as good as a lot of people. Ok so tonight I revved it almost to red line in first gear and I noticed that my clutch slipped but it only slips whe I go into 2nd at high rpms. I’m pretty sure that it’s going bad but it shifts really good at say 4500 to maybe 5000 and good in any other gear. I won’t have the money for a new clutch for at least a month maybe two. I need as much help as I can get on getting a new clutch and flywheel. I’m going to go aftermarket of course and I basically have a completely stock motor. I plan on mostly normal driving with a little track later on nothing to extreme of course. Whatever advice anyone can give me will be appreciated. If I drive her easy do I have enough time to save the money for a new clutch. Also, I did search for something like this but I couldn’t find it.
I really need some help with this one.
Mine does that too, clutch slips some after high RPM shifts to 2nd. I wouldn’t worry too much about it if you plan on replacing it eventually. Just go easy on it and you should be fine until you can get a new clutch in there.
How many miles does your motor/tranny have on it, and do you know if any previous owners had the clutch replaced at all? OEM clutches are decent, but they don’t work perfectly forever, so I’d say you’re fine as long as you don’t flog on it.
As a side story, I used to have a turbo’ed 95 SOHC honda civic with the stock clutch… the car had 130k miles on it and I beat the living hell out of that clutch, it liked to do the 2nd gear slipping thing a lot, so I’d just let off a bit on the revs until it grabbed. I sold the car last year and the new owner is still running it with the stock clutch, gets around just fine and he can still drive it aggresively, just has to be nice to it.
