i just bought my integra a few weeks ago from an original owner… looks like the car was really well maintained but when i played a cassette on the stock deck, it won’t work… the radio works but when i put in a cassette, it makes some chugging sound then ejects the tape after a few seconds… neway i can fix this by myself or is my cassette player really done for? thanks:(

I dont know, but who listens to tapes anymore??? As soon as a got my teggy (just 3 days ago), I tossed that sucker and threw in a new deck. I, personally, wouldnt try fixing that piece of junk. get a new deck homie.

hehe, thanks for replying… yea, soon i’ll be having a cd deck but i juss wanted to find out if there’s nething i can do… i guess not.

The funny thing is that the OEM head units are not junk. You can have a competition-quality system if you use a good LOC and clean amplification. The stock hu is designed to power very weak speakers and will sound horrible with aftermarket drivers without outboard amplification. IASCA trophies have been taken with stock decks… right Wade?? Of course adding a TOSLINK to the hu certainly helped…

Anyway, if you want to replace the deck you have, I have my stockie from a '93 in my closet. You are welcome to if for a few bucks and shipping.

Andrew.

You likely broke the band on the transport mechanism. Open the hu up and look for a broken belt/band.

thanx for the reply… i’m juss bout saving up to buy a new head deck with a cd player… i juss wanted to find out if i can still do something about it b4 i buy my new deck because i want to put in my portable cd player for now usin the cassette adapter. thanx newayz for offering ur old stock head…

i didn’t knoe stock head decks can be competitive too… how about stock speakers?? r they as good as well or is it better to replace them also? because i want to get subwoofers also so i can save money if i dont hav to buy new speakers…

The OEM speakers are terrible at best IMO. They will sound better with mor eamplification but I would definitely consider getting better drivers. If you need to save some cash, try using some home drivers (just make sure the magnets/cone are protected. Are you looking for a really accurate systyem or do you want to make a lot of noise? If you decide to go with a sub, I would suggest an outboard amplifier (even those decks with fat amps in them that claim they can drive subs won’t be anywhere near as effective as a good quality outboard).

You need to identify your budget as well as what you plan to acheive. It sounds silly I realize but many people make very fundamental errors in planning that end up in a poorly matched system, a waste of money, or a system that performs differently that expected.

IMO I would sink most of your budget into your drivers. If you get a good quality component set and feed them a lot of clean power, you will be very happy. If you want a really accurate-sounding cd player, look for one with a low noise DAC and 32x oversampling. Keep in mind that any distortion less than about 1% in inaudible to humans (yes… ever audiophiles with O2 free interconnects)… lol

personally, rite now i’m on a budget for a sound system… there’s an ad i saw for a stereo place that ha 2 12" rockford fosgate subs with the box and the amp for 179… i’m not sure yet how it sounds but i guess it shouldn’t be that good since it’s cheap… but yea… i really don’t plan on using my head deck amplifier for the subs. but is getting more watt power for an amp better? i’m juss kinda new at this and all i knoe is that u need an amp for the subs
