Straight up Filter in the Manifold

So I did just straight up filter and removed my intake and what happend is that the gas smells different. Its smells like its not burning right. So im just wondering what do I need to do. and how. Do I need to get it tuned up again? like the fuel and air ratio or something like that I really forgot whats it called. Heres a Picture of what I did.

its most likely running rich since its getting pure hot air. but if you like your idea then good luck.
only time you see a filter mounted directly to a intake charge is on a Turbo, don’t have one so your better off stock for your cars sake.

The question is why did you remove your intake tube? It won’t yeild more power… in fact, it will actually hurt your powerband.

Reinstall your intake tube.

Well it did actually. It’s more torquey. I’ve tested and compared it to my stock one and after market one. The after market intake tube actually decreased my power. I’ve alsoe went to the mechanic to check it and they said its fine. And I think this is better than my after market one. And my OEM one is broken so I really have no choice.

Unless you did your testing on a dyno, there is no way for you to say if there is an increase or decrease in power between the three. Butt-dyno is hardly accurate.

And as stated, length of intake pipe shifts your power band accordingly. What you are noticing is a shift in the power band.

Unless your mechanic builds performance engines and not just a regular repair mechanic, I would take his word with a grain of salt.

Well actually yeah he had a type r for 5 years and he does prefromance. They did the dyno test on another car with the aftermarket intake tube they said the power actually decreased when it has that. So he recomended that just to put the filter it self rather than with the tube. I just got this info right now lol…

Id get rid of the filter and run open-Throttlebody… that filter is just restricting teh air fl0wz.

Different cars/engines respond differently to mods. If that car responded that way, it doesn’t mean this car will.

Just because he recommends it doesn’t mean it may be the best solution for G2s. Listen to people on here who actually mod G2s and knows what works and what doesn’t.

BTW that little filter breather going to your valve cover isn’t doing the engine any good…

Yeah your right. Ima just get ITBS then. Thanks you guys. you also have a point mike. My bad.

if memory serves me right the only reason tuners at dynos would use the filter like that its purely for tunning reason. they also take off the filter and bolt on a velocity stack in order to squeeze every but of power out the engine that can belch out 250hp+ all motor, nitrus or Turbo. It also done in a dyno facility with every inch of the car and engine controlled or monitor to reduce catastrophic failures, but in the real world out side the dyno I can almost guarantee no one will daily drive a extensive build with a open element velocity stack. .
that mechanic must of thought is wouldn’t do any harm to a stock old ls engine, if that.was the case.then you would of had a reason to start a thread.

Yeah your right. I was just making sure if my mechanics advice is right… Good thing I posted this thread

I remember when I did that man that gave me hella lag! >.< at a cold start it would be fine but onces your car is warm it’s all bad. Got a short ram made everything good again, the air velocity and engine pulse from the sr helps but hey you can do as you please
