can you make your hood open strait up?
 do you mean all 4 corners? like raising the hood? ive seen that before but not on a teg. anything is possible with money
I think what he means is have the hood pop up more at a 90 degree angle… right OP? If so… just remove the lil unpainted tab on the hinges and voila… the hood can now stand 90 degrees up.
no like you see on gen3s and civics
yeah but what prop rod should i use?
Most people don’t use one, they just lift it up and it sits on the windshield wipers. Because of the stock hood prop design and the increased angle there isn’t a stock prop to use when you get your hood to go vertical. You’d need to design your own, possibly drill some holes… just depends on how you want it setup and where you want it to be.
Or you can always get an extra DA prop rod, measure how high the hood you want it to sit, cut the extra prop rod and weld it onto your existing prop rod… that way, you can still use the factor holes and mounting locations… don’t know how stable that will be but it’s just another option shrug
With the hood straight up the rod would have to be very long. So long that it wouldn’t fit under the hood with the hood closed. The way to go would be to go more with the style of having a shorter prop closer to the hinge - but that means fabrication / modification…
Haha… true true… completely forgot about having to close the hood as well… silly me. :read:
i know im gonna have to get a shorter rod and move it. i was wondering what car to get the rod from
Nothing from a stock vehicle is going to just fit right in w/o modification to either the rod, hood or fender/strut tower area… so to a certain extent, it doesn’t matter. There may be ones that are better than others, but that’s going to be on a case by case basis dependent on how you are planning on designing our setup.
I know EF hatchbacks have a shorter version, whether it’ll work for what you need

thanks ill just hit up the junkyard and see what happens from there
just a warning. i did this to my hood and it ended up cracking my windshield pretty bad
^^ exactly. never let the hood rest on the windshield. i have seen windshields crack several times cause of this. if you have any creativity and fabrication skills, go pick up a civic prop rod and go at it.
WOW really? Is this just from having the hood sit on the windshield?
oo now i see. yea ive done this too but i dont like it. i dont have any custom prop rod and i wouldnt try it down hill or on a windy day. i did have to adjust my hood cause the corners closer to the windshield would touch it
I’ve never seen a cracked windshield because of this. Not saying it’s not possible, but I’ve never seen it. Are you guys running wipers? My hood rests on the wipers which give plenty of cushion.
yes i have wipers and it did rest on my wiper but one day i had a crack in my windshield. it didnt have any chips in it so i know it wasnt hit but anything
I wouldn’t jump to conclusions like that. Was the car sitting w/ the hood up then you returned and the glass was cracked? Or did you just show up one day and it was cracked? Not trying to argue, just trying to learn a little more. The windshield is extremely strong, the hood doesn’t weight that much and cushioned by the wipers… that’s not much pressure at all. It’s much more susceptible to things like rocks on the freeway and heat - changes in temperature can be a windshield’s worst nightmare.
when i did this to my teg(before i go hood shocks) mine used to rest directly on the windshield and not the wipers. however, on econoline’s for example, you can raise the hood so that it rest on the windshield. ive seen the windshield crack from this and so have others that work at my garage. so if you decide to go that way id be very careful.
