stright pipe

dose anyone run stright pipe at the strip? dose it take any time off the ets? cause i was thinking about getting a exhuast cut out. it would be somthing like this.link http://ourworld.cs.com/jrpws6/mod+guide/QTECDiagram.gif

no…

Straight Pipe= Bad

Dont do straight pipe on low power 4banger. It kills low rpm power. I had 3" straight pipe on my 93 b18b it kills power and sounds like crap.

no a straight pipe w/ the correct diameter doesn’t lose torque. In your case you “lost” torque because you are using a diameter way too big for a n/a 1.8L engine. Besides unless you did a before and after dyno, i don’t see how you “know” you lost torque. The butt dyno is not accurate. Don’t spread around wrong information…

its noticably different when you take off

You used a 3" on a N/A?

A 2.5 will hold450WHP I heard. Not sure tho.

WTH would you use andthing above 2.0 or 2.25 on a N/A

Hahaha.

mmmm, loud, not needed straight pipe. :gotrice:

:bang: it’s not “rice” if it’s for the track

I say do the dyno test, since noone here seems to have numbers to back up a claim…

Dyno your car, then do a 2.25" straight pipe and go back…

Anything above 2.25" is for turbo engines…N/A needs backpressure, Turbo needs free-flow

I dont have number’s, but I had straight piping…ran a 9.97 in the 1/8th, got a greddy sp2 exhaust, ran a 9.972…WOW…big fucking difference… it doesnt hurt nor help…And besides…makes you sound ricey.

it is ricey when piping is too big and it sounds like a moose dying from a heart attack.

well, for strip racers, that .2 of a second is ALOT…

You will have noticable gains if you are boosted…the less restricted the exhaust is, the better you will boost…

And yes, a straight pipe is VERY loud, but if it’s for the track, who gives a shit? It’s when people put straight pipes on everyday cars that it’s rice

can sum1 explain to me why back pressure is needed on n/a motors??? i just cant figure out why its ever needed. and i want a technological answer instead of a smartass remark.

^^
here have fun reading this article…it has alot of info about backpressures pros/cons

http://www.team-integra.net/sections/articles/showArticle.asp?ArticleID=355

hmmm…interesting article. thanx  Can’t have too much backpress. but can’t have too little. great just wat i needed to know, i guess 2.25 will be perfect.

greddy header + home made test pipe + RS*R exhaust = quiet

OMG dude i bout fell out of my fucking chair and died laughing when i read that… Sorry… Random as comment.

I just installed a “Test Pipe” or resonator today… w/e you wanna call it… From ebay… You can call it more like a test… Anyways

It was a bitch to put on… no doubt about that one. Taking off a cat. converter that has been bolted in for 13 years is no easy task ( Had to use my saw zaw  ) I finally got it put on and took off… I expected it to be ricey but nope, My car has a custom exaust on it from the cat back, and it made it produce some nice low tones… No high as pitch whines or anything, and I didnt lose any power… It actually felt a little quicker, but thats probably psychological. I was happy with mine. I dont think you should put one on a car that has a stock air intake though… Makes it sound poppy.

greddy header + home made test pipe + RS*R exhaust = quiet

Comptech header + 2.25" baffled test pipe + RS*R exhuast = sounds fucking amazing (oh, and it’s quiet too)

hey, off topic, but imma do my exhaust sytem this summer, and I don’t want rice  I was going to buy a Tanabe Side mount, and it comes with a resonator…Are you guys saying that no cat, just headers would give me a low deep sound when not at WOT?

DC header + straight pipe + HKS hi-power exhaust = quiet

dude wat u guys mean by rice, get flowmasters then.
