Not sure about you guys but if after having to run my donut a few weeks back I found out just how much that plastic ‘floor’ in our cars sucks.
So I went over to my old man’s place and he cut me up some 1/4 plywood he had sitting around.
Now I have a nice solid trunk floor.
I was thinking of doing something similar. Instead I was gonna take a big piece of plywood, and use the plastic in the trunk as a template for the new trunk floor.
How does that wood hold up? I was thinking a thicker corrugated plastic would be a better choice
eye sore!
Holds up great. I have a ton of stuff in my trunk most the time.
Plus plastic is pricey, wood isn’t.
:umno: the carpet covers in just fine.
I’ll re-make it with a single piece of wood when I have time, likely in the spring.
isn’t it heavy?
1/4 inch pressboard like that stuff is not very heavy at all. Maybe about 15lbs a 4 x 8 sheet. Using something solid like 3/4 inch ranger board is super heavy. Or 1/2 or 3/4 inch plywood.
Since I removed my rear seats the sound that comes from my back wheels is deafening so i’ve been thinking about doing something like this only insulating underneath it. You find that you hear the rear tires too much G2racer?
My tires are some just some crappy tire specials and I can totally hear them howling away.
It’s a bit annoying.
I’ve thought about making a rear seat delete using some plywood or something light-ish. But not sure when that will happen.
That is OSB (oriented strand board) it’s quite light, but not very strong.
I think a good choice for the trunk floor would be some MDF (medium density fiber-board). Which is the same stuff speaker boxes are made out of.
Up until I cleaned it out, I had a tool box, all my work tools, my sub box, box of oil and a jack. It held up just fine.
I did this too, only I used the plastic cover as the template. I also added some hinges so it’d lift easier.
Check it:
It’s held up for about 2 1/2 yrs now, no problem. I used to work construction. Carryin’ tools sucks!

That’s my exact plan here soon, Build it with the hinges so i can still get under there without removing my sub box!
nice thick piece of lexan would also do the trick
seems like a good idea untill you start looking into the prices on the thicker lexan! At one point I had a guy I worked with interested in having me build him a clear sub box, the lexan would have cost more than the pair of subs he wanted to put into it, and they weren’t cheap subs either.
you gotta pay to play… i am going to use a full size spare and the clear lexan for my trunk with some lighting and a custom panel job for my db1 trunk (for shows) i think it will look badass i will post pis of the build when i get started
I just took my whole plastic one out. LOL Using a full size spare makes it stick up way too much and almost makes the hatch area useless.
mines a db1 and i got a tire well mod coming with it the whole thing will be smooth and about 2 inches deeper to accomadate
