I am tired of using vice grips to hold up the rear hatch were can I get some without having to get them from the dealership. I am wanting to buy new ones or really good used ones thanks.
Junkyard or check the for sale forum and see whatever is closest to kck.
dude, i took some off of a dc integra that were perfect but they dont even hold up my hatch! i think its because mine has a spoiler
try any local auto parts store
I’m going through this too. Except that when I bought some, I realized that my old ones that are the car still have a bolt on the end. I was told those are OEM Honda ones and new ones from the dealership are more expensive a sidewalk blow-job by a migit. So looks like I need that bolt kit or something. Oi. I failed on doing my research with that shizz this time around. So frustrating getting K.O.'d by the trunk every week getting groceries.
no the kits at the local parts store just replace the bolts with a ball joint you screw into place. I’ve done it on two of my DA’s.
Great reviews…great performance
Thank you guys yeah I got a good gash in my forehead from the vice grip letting go and made the trunk hit me in the head
DAtung, where / how did you replace that bolt to the ball end piece? I have the original struts still on the car, they’re no good anymore, and a good aftermarket pair just sitting there.
I am in Canada though so no Pep boys or Autozone.
Thanks in advance.
well the first pair i picked up at kragen but the second one was from ebay…and both came with the ball end piece in the bag. I wouldnt know where else to get them separately… If you took out that bolt and found something with the same thread pitch, im sure you could make something happen…and the vice grip idea is dangerous, that trunk is heavy, i used to carry a long board to keep the trunk up until i found the struts…
and the new struts work so well that when i pull my trunk release from in the car, the trunk opens and rises up on its own.
Ok thanks, I’ll try and figure out/fab something up.
yep. got them from autozone and they work great. it helps to remove the rear wiper motor. then you pop the trunk and it will lift on its own
Go to pep boys, advance auto or autozone. They are like $40 for both, i think that’s how much i paid at advance auto
I had this same problem also. I got tired of it and finally ordered hatch shocks from NY eBay seller: PartsAvenue $36.97(pair/shipped)
I would recommend these shocks from PartsAvenue, Excellent gas shocks… I’ve had my Integra for a little bit over a year, and I’ve never seen my hatch open without hands… These shocks are prefect, you know they’re good when you have to use some force to shut the hatch…
RockAuto sells RhinoPac for $31.06 (pair before shipping) and StrongArm for $45.58 (pair beofre shipping)

I think my ebay ones were from parts ave too…
yeah i do have the oem spoiler but i dont have my wiper motor. otherwise I’m sure it wouldn’t open on its own.
I never did like the way the autozone and NAPA ones slide up and down. It didn’t feel factory. The autozone ones were too hard to push down and it went up like a spring mouse trap. I just saved up and bought the OEM ones and it fit like a glove. It goes up smoothly even with an aftermarket three piece spoiler.
OP- If you plan on keeping your car for a long time, just save for some OEM ones. $130 bucks isn’t that bad.

o yea… i got the same struts. getting them on was a little tricky by myself and once i figured out that i had to take off the little screw thing IN the hatch everything went good. these struts are crazy strong. i dont let my hatch go up all the way by itself because it slams so hard once its up. for the price theyre the isht…
GET THEM. if you dont have them… GET THEM
Hey, thanks for the tips guys. Question - do these work with the existing little pieces of plastic trim which cover the OEM struts? Or will I have to throw those out?
I found a couple other choices online:
- Monroe 901038 Max-Lift Hatch
- Strongarm 4968 Acura Integra Hatch Lift
Can get both for about $40US shipped (of course not to Canada :() so I figured I’d get the ones that fit best.
Thanks
BTW: these things cost about $85 bucks for a pair in Canada :bs:
