STS Rule Change

From the new Fastrack:

ITEM 2) Effective 1/1/2004, change 14.2.B to read as follows: “The driver and front passenger seats may be replaced, with the following restrictions: The seating surface must be fully upholstered: The top of the seat, or an attached headrest, may not be below the center of the driver’s head. The seat, not including mounting hardware, must weigh at least 15 pounds.”

This is great news in my opinion. I’m really glad I didn’t spend money on a reclineable racing seat. Now to figure out which seat is right for me.

Let me know what seat your looking at nino. this seat thing, while not effecting me in the rules dept, has become a really problem. My car is handling so well, that I spend half my effort just trying to sturdy myself, and you know at some of the speeds we go, this aint’t a good thing.

You can borrow my passenger seat next time

Mike,
I don’t think that the seat that I get would be good for you since I’m looking for one that can accommodate a fat f*ck like myself. Also, I’m going to be using this for race days only, so I’m not looking for anything that would be comfortable for every day driving.
I know what you mean about the trying to keep yourself in your seat thing. It’s not too for autox(mostly because your run goes by so fast that you don’t have time to think about staying in your seat, but at the few track days that I attended, staying in the seat became a real chore.

Now thats fat

Sparco Sprint might be what you’re looking for nino. Just for referece, i can fit in it :). It’s realatively cheap and you won’t be worrying about staying in your seat anymore.

Thanks Jon. I’ve tried sitting in the Sprint before and I did fit, but it was pretty tight(not sure if that matters since I won’t be using the seat all the time). The other thing that I’m looking for is something that will lower my seating position as much as possible. I’ve got to get all that mass as close to the ground as possible.

Schu,
nice pics.:vomit:

Recline your seat all the way back… Oh you mean driving, sorry

Nino, have you tried sitting in the Corbeau Forza? It’s an inexpensive, non-reclinable seat that was too big for me.

Hi Duy,
I was looking at those online the other day. They actually have a Forza 2 that is even wider. I was considering that one.
I also went to a local performance shop and got to sit in the sparco sprint. I actually fit in that thing a lot better than I remembered. I think that’s the one that I might end up getting.

Nice! Now I have reason to blow even more money that I don’t have!

Yeah, but at least you can blow it on a seat that costs about three times less than a reclineable one and is more functional. I thought you were a DSP guy, but maybe I’m confusing you with someone else.

ryank’s seats… goddam i was jealous. remember when i grabbed my crotch and moaned while sitting in them? ryank got a little worried… :uhoh:

Nino,
Nope, I’m in STS. Well, when my car doesn’t stall out, that is.

Johnny,
Ryan’s seats kind of reminded me of the Recaro Speed or Sport, which are two of the seats that I was looking at before this new rule came out. I’m glad that I can now just buy a much cheaper seat since I was planning on using it only for racing.
Chris,
That’s cool. It’s nice to meet another STS guy. Are you planning on going to any national events this year?
-nino

Nino, i sat in a civic coupe with the sparco sprint at one of the autox here last year. I was amazed at how low i sat in that seat. Although that’s the only non reclining aftermarket seat i sat in :(.

Yeah, I’m pretty sure that I’m going to get the Sprint unless something happens to make me change my mind.

I probably won’t have the time or money to do any Nationals. Not only that but my car is acting up during autocrosses.

But most importantly, my driving isn’t national caliber…
