STS Setup

Well, after un-knowingly making my car illegal for STS, a friend of mine and I have decided to take some of the parts from my car and put them on his and then co-drive that car next season. His car is an RS(my old one) and I think it’s acually a better platform to build build an STS car than my GS-R is. For one thing, the RS is significantly lighter, and without the sunroof, I actually fit in there with my helmet on. Also, I think that the slightly higher torque of the RS motor is better suited for autox than the B17(which has more HP). Anyway, here is the setup that we should have ready by the start of next season:

93 RS w/ ~130k miles

Suspension:
-Tein SS coilovers with 504F/559R spring rates
-Progress rear sway bar
-Stock front sway bar
-Oglesport rear upper strut bar:up:
-Neuspeed front upper strut bar
-Vision A-arms
-ES poly bushing master kit

Wheels:
-15" SSR Competion replicas w/ Falken Azenis(thanks Amerikan)
-15" Konig Heliums w/ Falken Azenis

Motor:
-AEM CAI
-DC 4-2-1 Ceramic header
-Custom exhaust

Brakes:
-Stock for now

Misc:
-Removed A/C
-13 lbs battery re-located to trunk
-Skunk2 shifter

Also, the clutch seems to be going out, so we’re going to have to replace that. Does anyone know which clutches are legal. I know you can’t have a racing clutch, but do you have to buy it from Honda for it to be considered stock(I hope not).

Some time in the near future I’d also like to get a racing seat(Sparco Sprint), racing harness, aftermarket steering wheel, pullies(don’t think they’ll do much, but since it’s legal…), AFC, SS brake lines, and some better brake pads.

Please comment on the set-up, or if you run STS, list yours.
Thanks,
-nino

What did you do to your car that made it illegal?

My setup:
Car:
'93 LS with 203k miles
Suspension:
Skunkworks coilovers
KYB AGX shocks
Ogle rear Tie
Ogle upper rear (2002 only stolen before 2003)
APC Front strut bar

Wheels:
Rota Spider 15x6.5 with Falken Azenis
'95 GSR wheels will probably go with Kumho MX for these
'99 GSR wheels with Falken Azenis (borrowed used on '03 Brmerton NT only)

Brakes:
Hawk HP+ front pads all else stock

Engine:
Stock

To the best of my knowledge clutches can be “stock replacement” by any manufacturer.

I pulled out the ABS(although it wasn’t working anyway) and there’s no way that I’m going to put it back in.
Thanks for the advice on the the clutch. So the Exedy standard(not racing) clutch should do?

Clutch must have stock dimensions and material. don’t buy expensive aftermarket, since they try and limit any additional holding capacity (SCCA that is).

Chris, do you have any recommendations on which clutch to get?
Thanks,
-nino

I believe that the Exedy Organic is a “stock replacement” and should be legal for STS. It won’t really grip any faster than a new OEM would though.

My setup:

92 GSR w/ ~110K miles

-GC sleeves
-GC upper mounts (f/r)
-450#f/500#r (have 550# I can put on rear)
-Koni Yellows (half stiff/nearly full stiff)
-Progress 22mm rear sway
-Some upper strut bar

-205/50 15 Azenis on 95 GSR wheels

-Axxis Ultimates (front)
-AEM (rear)
-Brembo OE rotors
-Goodridge SS lines

-AEM intake
-DC 4-2-1 header
-Thermal muffler

The car should be pretty competitve, though it won’t be taking out many well driven 91 Civic hatches.

Are you talking about the Exedy standard clutch(Part # 08-027) or the racing clutch(PArt # 08-800-A)?

I mean the standard non-racing. I’d get OEM but that is likely much more expensive.

Yeah, the OEM clutch has got to be really expensive. Seems like the Exedy standard is my best bet.
