Sub Question

ok so here’s the question… I found 2 JL w0’s in a JL box and a 760watt Pio amp for $580. I also found 2 Orion cobalt subs in a box and a Direct Effects Amp (between 6-7 hundred watts) for $525 all these prices include installation… so which one sounds better? thanx

i had 3 10 JL Audio W-0’s in a JL Box

hooked up to a shitty no name amp in my talon

and it hit great

sound was perfect and pretty loud
i never heard the other brand in action

but id get the JL’s

maybe u should shop around a bit i sold my 3 10’s in the box for $250 in perfect condition

i think tehre like $300 or so new

HTH

Orion Cobalts are the entry level Orions. I hear and installed them and would not recommend it unless you’re on a tight budget and want Orion for some reason. Their XTR subs are another story.

So then the JL w0’s are worth the extra 55 dollars then? what about the amp? Pioneer ok or is there something better in the like 200 dollar range?

please dont throw away your money like that on any of these flea market setups.

jl w0’s - do they even make these anymore? 125rms each. value? id pay… maybe 40-60bucks new, as you can get w3’s which are 250rms and can be had for 110-130 new.
760watt Pio? probably your run of the mill ‘lets offer the customer crap first so we can make a killing’ amp. realistically its probably only 200rms or less.
so lets say 150 for the subs, and the amp id say, 150. 100 for installation. total = 400. taking advantage charge = 180.

the orion and direct effects(?) amp… pretty much teh same thing, except the difference of 55bucks- id say cuz jl’s are more popular, and the cobalts might have slightly less power handling. the amp- just as crappy.

the preferred advice here is to do research and choose wisely, but if you must, lemme throw some ideas at you with what seems like a 500-600$ budget, and should be found at most any shop:

(2) jl audio 12w3-d4 or image dynamics idq12-d4 v.2 - $250. offer the shop this. max- 280, else leave. idq12 preferred.

dual box. 1cubic ft to 1.5cuft per chamber, 2 separate chambers, sealed. 3/4" mdf wood minimum. $35-50max.

rockford fosgate 300 or mtx 202 - $200 max. ($220 at best buy/good guys)

500w generic amp install kit (power wire must be 10ga or better, 8ga or 4ga) $20-30max.

total - ~550. able to destroy and humiliate the other setups. of course, you can do more research and get even better stuff, esp. if you go online. good luck.

oh and if you do choose to pay for installation, $50-100
