subframe reinforcement needed with ITR or any 22mm and up rear sway bar?

i was reading about subframe tears after using a rear ITR sway bar or any bar that was 22mm or more (due to weaker subframes on non ITR vehicles) and was wondering if it was necessary to strengthen our subframes. I know there are subframe reinforcement kits (BSQ, Comptech, Aspec) for other cars (EGs, EKs, DCs) but how bout our rides? And do u think we can modify these kits to fit the DA chassis?

bump for interest…

me too, i’ve got one sat in the boot waiting for me to fit it… i’d previously thought people had probs with it ripping out from where the D-brackets bolt it to the subframe, so was planning on bolting right through and plating on the other side as per a how to on here.

Now i hear that it’s the subframe itself ripping from the underside of th car that’s the issue?

anyone got input?

Chsscott would be the one to answer this question. He seems to know about the subframe issues from what I can recall.

I’ve been running a 22mm ITR rear bar for over 5 years now. I installed it via a few bolts and nuts and new holes I’ve drilled into the rear crossmember. I have yet to rip the metal and I’ve had the car in some very hard corners. A few times each one of the rear wheels has lifted off the ground. No rips yet but if they do I plan on welding in a new crossmember from an ITR back there

awesome thread there, i’ve just ‘saved as’ (I’m gonna get round to the bushings at some point, but am not looking forward to it as they’re a PITA)

re: the ITR install though - looks like you bolted straight through to the other side, whereas the guys with tears on the linked Honda-Tech threads look like their top bolts were just into existing holes? I can’t see whether or not the fronts of the subframe have torn (would they have if they’d bolted right through top and bottom?)

But you’ve also given me two other things to think about:

  1. your lower tie bar - i’ve ben looking for one (no DA parts in the UK) but your cut length steel bar looks like the most functional I’ve seen, not to mention an easier install! I’m gonna look afterwards, get to a scrappy and get the drill out!

  2. the guys with tears on HT didn’t seem to be running lower tie bars OR extra bracing on the subframe - seems to me that without some sort of extra support the flex is gonna assist with a tear happening. With a plate bracing the subframe & a lower tie bar, there shouldn’t be a problem touch wood.

Also, can i ask what spring rates you’re running now, as this will obviously effect matters.

hey guys i am thing of building all out da race car for lapping, i was thinking about removing a the da rear crossmeber and replacing it by the itr one p/n 65750-st7-r10zz do you think it work???
