The paint is beginning to flake off of the stock plastic wheel covers that came on the 1993 Teg LS that I just got. Being a 17 year old, I really cannot afford to get rims. I am hoping to do a good paint job on the hub caps. Does anyone have any suggestions? It would be good to know exactly what type of plastic those particular hub caps are (the ones I have are pictured below). Anyone know? I was thinking about using your standard paint thinner to get the paint off. The maybe clean it with some ultra fine polish or the Motip Dupli-Color Plastic Cleaner (http://www.dupli-color.de/webgate/wg_5_2.nsf/ContentByKey/MDTD-4Y2RPD-EN-p). Then I guess I should prime with MOTIP Plastic Primer(http://www.dupli-color.de/webgate/wg_5_2.nsf/ContentByKey/MDTD-4Y2RPL-EN-p). Finally, this MOTIP Rim Lacquer (http://www.dupli-color.de/webgate/wg_5_2.nsf/ContentByKey/MDTD-4Y2RQW-EN-p). Does these seem like a good procedure? In the end I’d like something SLIGHTLY more silver/metallicy than they are now (pictured below) and that will hold up to vigorous washings and salt & sand from the road.
Anyone have any other ideas? Any input is appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
