im going to be ordering some GCs and koni yellows soon and i need some suggestions on the spring rates. i am going to be slowly getting into auto-x so i need something that will do well with that plus be reasonably comfortable for my 3 hour drives to and from school. the konis will help soften up the ride a lot on the highway but i dont want to be bouncing all over the place with super firm springs. any suggestions on a good compromise for the front and rear rates???
i found out that the konis should only be used upto 400 lbs… so im thinking about 350 front/ 400 rear
I’m running 450f/400r. I would think 350 up front would be a little sloppy for a linear rate spring.
350lbs on the front will be to soft, the suspension will bottom out on the bump stops way to often, with 400 you will also ride the bump stops regularly but liveable. For autox I ran 450/500 with my GC/Koni’s for few years and found it just was not stiff enough even with a lightened car, still rode the bump stops, but still very streetable. I now run 600/800 on Advanced Design dampers with a 19mm rear anti sway and the car feel very good. I would not suggest you run anything softer on your Koni’s then 400/400 and make up the rear roll stiffness with a large 22mm rear anti sway bar. If you want to be competitive it’s not the optimal set up but it will allow you to get started.
archivethis I’m gonna be ordering some gc’s eventually, and I was wondering the same thing
found this on honda-tech.com … someone emailed Koni to find out the actually tolerances of the off-the-shelf shocks. http://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=190396
according to Koni, the spring rates should not exceed 400 lbs without being revalved. im not sure what cars the people at honda-tech have their konis on, but most them seem happy being right around 400 lbs. maybe most of them have lighter cars than the teg.
Most of the people who contribute to the competition forum at honda-tech.com run G3 Integra’s. Their cars weight is similar to our’s, but have a bit more bump travel in the front suspension.
could i cut the bumpstops in half??? bad idea im guessing
