Sun Roof Help.

Hello everyone! I am brand new to this site and think it’s a wonderful forum. I just finished a search on this forum but did not find any answers for my problem. I was just wondering if anyone could tell me how to take the roof liner off to access the sunroof rails. I tried to take the roof liner off yesterday but was scared I was going to break something.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in Advanced

Yeah, it’s kind of a daunting task, isn’t it?
Basically you have to take everything off the roofliner first – visors, lights, “holy s*it” handles, etc. If they don’t have screws in them, they probably pull off somehow (push to one side or the other…) That strip of rubber that goes around the hole where the sunroof is has to come off. Just start it where it connects and peel it off.
And finally, the pillar covers have to come off or at least be loosened (just pull on them, and they’ll pop out).
I might be missing something… but I can’t think of anything else.

you actually have to remove all the pillar covers too, (which is a bitch from what i can tell)…

one day, i decided to take my roof liner off because it was coated thick with nicotine layers… (ew)… so i took off all the ‘holy sht’ handles, sunvisor, maplight, domelight, sunroof liner (if you have one)… had to sort of bend the liner and slip it off… only to find out that there were bolts holding on (that i obviously broke off) underneath the plastic pillars where the rear 'holy sht’ handles are… i thought nothing of it as it just easily slips back in afterwards…

but yeah, if you want to do it properly, you gotta remove everything!!!

“holy s*it” handles, etc.

LOL…I’ve never heard anyone call them that before…

why are you getting to the rails? I guess you have a sunroof problem?

I had a problem, my sunroof would look like it was getting stuck or something opening then wouldn’t close and if it did it was real slow. I usualy had to use that tool to close the thing. I called the dealer and he told me the motor NEVER goes bad and that they come mis allined on the rails sometimes. Well I take it in and they tell me it was the motor and cable? $400+ So i say nah I’ll fix it myself. I bought a $40 switch and it works like new.

SO maybe i saved you some trouble.

Haha that’s their name…you didnt know?

What would they actually be called? I’ve never known them to be anything other than Holy Sh!t handles…

maybe they can also be called ‘crusing’ handles heheheh… you know how people like to just hold it for fun… hahaha

It only “seems” that they are holding it for fun, but, knowing my driving, they’re holding it in anticipation of a hard turn and/or sudden stop.
