sunroof delete plug

Guys thinking bout removin full sunroof to shed weight 47lbs to be exact…any ideas on a plug besides lighter faster kits?

Carbon fiber roof cap from isport. It will cover the entire roof. I’m not sure how it secures but it will probably do the job and look good too.

Last i checked isports website isnt even valid anymore so i have no idea whats the word on that…because i was looking into that as well but his website didnt load and i am bot aure if he has had any activity on the site lately

I emailed with a guy from there some time ago. I can give you the same email and you can try to get some where with him.

Sounds good man please do

I have the iSport roof cap. It gets the job done but I wouldn’t call it a high quality part. For the price I was pretty disappointed in the quality, its thin and has lots of blemishes. Way more than what you’d find on normal “factory second” type stuff. My car is a track car I beat on so its fine and I tolerate it, but at some point I’d like to paint the hole car and at that point plan is to weld in an RS roof skin. But that’s big job so for now what I have is ok.

Regardless, I don’t think he’s making parts anymore… Its worth emailing him about though.

Colin i was thinking about making an aluminum piece cut out then having a motorcycle shop use an english wheel to curve it to the sunroof glass…then weld an aluminum piece all around it so you can clamp it to the inner roof panel

If you’re going to go to the trouble of paying for labor like that I’d hav them use steel and have it welded so you can use paint and bondo to finish the job right. If you’re just making a plug I’d use flat alum or carbon sheet nd just bolt it in place and not worry about the contour since a plug will look unfinished nearly regardless of how you shape it.

You’ve been here long enough to know! the carbon fiber roof cap that was offered here!

I did something similar for my da. Had a sheet metal shop make a curved aluminium plug from a trace of the sunroof I did on a piece of cardboard. Then I took some plywood and used it as a scaffold to hold the plug in place while I used npc solar seal to bond the metal together. Cheap and works like a charm.

would you be able to emails me some pics please if at all possible…and some details would greatly appreciate it.

I dont quite know all the facts…but I would just buy either A) Buy another Integra, or B) Install a roll cage in the process. Taking out the factory sunroof (and this is just an assumption off the dome lmfao) seems to me like it would disrupt the integrity of the chassis, or the roof at least. Ive done no research on the matter, just something I thought about when I read this.

I wouldn’t worry about the structure at all. The sunroof assembly does add some support to the roof but it’s not needed for rollover protection or anything like that, and actually I think in a rollover would cause more harm than good. And depending on what sort of events you’re doing you might be mandated to remove the sunroof and other glass on the car.

exactly my thought…decreasing the weight you are decreasing the center of gravity and it will be less top heavy…I am sure once I start spending time with it I will be able to come up with a logical solution…stupid chicago winter lol

Where did you get the weight of 47lbs for the sunroof? When I weighed mine it was 35lbs.

I managed to dig up a photo of our Lemons car. We used an old street sign to make our sunroof plug. This was a flat sheet of steel ans all we did was trim it and rivet it in place. No shaping needed, if I remember correctly.
